Story
The day of the dressage was a horrible day for Chase. Lee's performance had been great, and Reno had behaved herself, but now it was the younger man's turn. Glamour was spotless, and gazed around the show ground from where he was tied to a fence. The stables were chaotic and it had been upsetting the gelding, but out there in the field he was placid, and a perfect model of a horse. They had taken the decision to geld him after he covered his last mare at Somesmera. The difference was immense. Glamour was now a good role model for his son, Devil. His nostrils flared gently as he sighed, and Chase smiled and rubbed his neck. "Hey there, fella," he said quietly as he ran the face brush over his gently dished face once more. His long forelock was gleaming, along with his flowing mane and tail. He would look the perfect image of a Harlequine out in the ring. Chase took up the bridle from where it was hung on the fence and slipped it onto Glamour effortlessly. Somesmera had done an amazing job training him, and now it was time to say thank you in the way of a fantastic performance. Lee appeared after a few minutes, his show clothes replaced with his usual rough attire, and his hair fluffed back into place.
"He's looking good!" He said with a grin, not sure himself whether he was referring to the Harlequine gelding or the man who had brushed up very nicely in his show gear. Sometimes, he wished he didn't have a girlfriend.
"Thanks, it's taken a lot of grooming," Chase chuckled, placing the saddle on Glamour's back, on top of the pristine white saddle cloth. Glamour watched the horses going about the show ground, his ears perked curiously. "I get the feeling he's going to ruin it all though. He's just behaving too nicely." Chase mused softly, tightening up the girth and then moving to pick up his riding hat.
"You'll be fine, I just know it. Here, I'll give you a leg up."
"Thanks," Chase sighed as he let Lee push him up onto the tall Harlequine's back. Glamour threw up his head and shifted, but that was all he did.
"Just try not to show your nerves, and he'll be fine," Lee said cheerfully as he tightened up the girth and then stepped back. "You should be okay to warm him up, but if I were you I'd do it in the field." Chase nodded mutely and walked Glamour on. The gelding had a slightly jaunty and lively gait, but it was usual for him. They strolled around the field calmly, performing seamless transitions between halt, walk and trot. When asked for canter, the gelding tucked his head in and burst forward with power and grace, Chase drawing him into a neat collection.

After a few minutes, Chase heard Lee shouting from the fence. It was their turn. The moment of truth. He trotted Glamour over to the ring, and waited for the steward to let them in. Glamour marched into the ring like he owned it, and halted defiantly in the middle. He listened to Chase, but hidden under all that refined behaviour was a monster waiting to burst out.
