I used Gundam markers to paint most of this, and Acrylics for some parts. Yeah, small figures are so hard to paint. I painted the figure of Mwu that came with the PG Skygrasper, and that was really really hard. I find markers easier to use than paintbrushes

Well, this figure is rly small D=... for me at least lol but i've been improving my stroke with paintbrushes...

xD Ohmaigawd, before I clicked on it, I could've sworn that the Archangel was a pair of shoes. xDD

I feel so stupid and embarrased. xDDDD

it's really nice-looking, though! Really, it's beautiful!

this is really impressive for just markers, but I can't stress the superiority of paints enough.

Good Work.

MapleRose In reply to Tatsumi67 [2009-01-20 03:47:00 +0000 UTC]

I know, paints are much better at getting into the small spaces. I probably need to clean this up more.

Tatsumi67 In reply to MapleRose [2009-01-20 03:52:02 +0000 UTC]

consider the following: A jar of Tamiya Acryillic is about $2.50 American.

The basic paints couldnt run you more than $10, especially for something as basicly collored as a battleship (I'm guessing).

I paid about $14 for a set of those horrid Gundam Markers.

However, paint becomes a consuming thing, the possibility of new colors, new schemes. I've bought about two jars of paint on average whenever I walk into my hobbystore, and over time, that adds up.

Paints are the way to go, even if they can become like an addiction.

MapleRose In reply to Tatsumi67 [2009-01-20 04:49:01 +0000 UTC]

it's not the paints. I do have acrylic paint (that I use for doing paintings), but those don't work too well with plastics I've discovered, 'cause they're from the tube, thus too thick, hard to get the consistency right, and they peel off if you don't.

Don't like enamels you can find in hobby stores since they're not water soluble, annoying to use. I like the Gundam paint that they sell in model stores, but the problem is, there isn't any store that carries that stuff near me. So I'd have to order them online, and shipping fees = gross.

Tatsumi67 In reply to MapleRose [2009-01-20 05:02:29 +0000 UTC]

I was talking about Tamiya/Mr.Color Acyillics, they are made for models. Enamels work just fine.

You could try thinning the art paints down and then trying it.

I got mine online: [link] (it ships to Canada, and has fixed shipping rate, which is good). You can also try eBay. Maybe some model stores in Toronto has it (some stores were at Anime North, and they had lots of models, although I didn't see any Archangels...)

RaventailBlacktalon In reply to MapleRose [2008-10-02 19:06:13 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, yeah, next time I'm in Toronto I'll have a look around
I have terrible with buying things off the internet. or at least, trying to. So I avoid it whenever possible. XD

The-Eternal-Cross [2008-09-21 18:16:34 +0000 UTC]

Hmm.... an interesting little thing there. Hmm.... wow, the "legs" of that ship are pretty darned big.... I only realize this when I see this scale model.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MapleRose In reply to The-Eternal-Cross [2008-09-22 23:44:53 +0000 UTC]

it also could be the angle I took this photo XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Eternal-Cross In reply to MapleRose [2008-09-25 22:29:07 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... that is very true actually... I didnt think about that. Still though, the legs are about (in terms of length) half the ship. Though it still manages to be an effective ship design... I have to give credit to the mecha designers for THAT one.

GlauG In reply to saffiremoon21 [2008-09-21 08:20:20 +0000 UTC]

Yes there is. Anyone who's ever tried painting painting a model doesn't ever use them again. >_>;

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

MapleRose In reply to GlauG [2008-09-21 15:56:01 +0000 UTC]

haha, they're not bad actually (other than the fact that I kinda got the wrong colour for the grey and it's hard to get into the small nooks), better than what I was originally gonna use, which is acrylics, since I don't have enamel or spraypaint DX

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GlauG In reply to MapleRose [2008-09-27 21:54:11 +0000 UTC]

Ah, see, I consider acrylics best for hand-painting, go figure.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MapleRose In reply to GlauG [2008-09-28 21:52:30 +0000 UTC]

well, acrylics on plastic isn't great, since it peels off after a while

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GlauG In reply to MapleRose [2008-09-29 06:52:36 +0000 UTC]

That's what you use primer for. o.o; I used to use acrylics for all my models before I moved onto lacquers... And none of them have peeled after several years.
