Description My lungs seemed to be on fire, and I could no longer fight, no longer struggle to stay afloat. I was collapsing backward, into a black blanket that swallowed me whole.
And then, just as abruptly, the blanket was gone, and I no longer felt limp or tired, and my lungs no longer burned.
I realized that someone was holding me, carrying me underwater, and I felt safe and calm. I looked up and saw that it was Leo, his golden hair streaming, his green eyes the color of the tall grasses that surrounded us.

So this is a tribute to the novel Sea Change, by Aimee Friedman. They are her characters Leo and Miranda.
I finished it this week and it's not that I loved it, but I liked this scene and felt like drawing it (It's on page 252).
The thing is the argument of this book was pretty cool and had a lot of potential. It could have been way better (and longer). I guess you can't expect every single novel to be a master piece.
In relation to the drawing, I'm proud of it . In comparison to another work of mine with similar theme,
Underwater Dancing , I think I have improved since then .
I hope you like it!

Thank you!

I know. Books are so expensive these days... But I can tell you if you definitely can't read this one, you won't be missing a masterpiece. It was OK, but there are certainly waaaaaay better books out there, if you ask me.

I was looking on amazon, decided to check the library and I ordered it (it was a lot harder to order a book than I thought).

Maybe you could do that again and make the girl with brown hair and hazel eyes and the guy with brown hair and brown eyes and the girl with a tail that is a dark blue and the fins a light blue?????

I totally agree. She could have gone so much further with it. It totally pissed me off that they didn't get their Happily Ever After, and Miranda was kind of shallow. And when she suddenly offered to sleep with Leo? I don't know, that kind of struck me as a bit out of character, since she wouldn't even go into his house.

I loved the plot though, how it was executed definitely needed some work.

Have you read "Forgive My Fins" by Tera Lynn Childs? Despite the characters being older than Leo and Miranda, it's still a bit more tame, or childish, than "Sea Change" but I really liked it.

Oh, you are so right. You just found the right words to describe Miranda: shallow (and incoherent) I guess that's one of the reasons I didn't like the novel as much as I could have

I have not read that book you mention but I'll consider reading it or at leads checking it out (thanks for mentioning it! )

This is amazing. I always pictured Miranda and Leo like this.(:

I loved this book, but if the end could have been different I would have been happier!

Hey! I was missing your drawings!
This one looks really cute, and, yeah, thanks for the spoiler <__< I love the water effect and the color of the effect of skin-turning-into-scales. How did you do the water thingie?

Mapvee In reply to reverseinverse [2009-11-08 17:23:55 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
I'm not sure what you mean by the water thing... If you're refering to the surface I just used several diferent photoshop brushes and added llayers until I liked the result. I don't really remember how I exactly did it anymore
The bottom of the sea I did in a similar way. Just adding layers and trying different brushes. Then I "blurred" it using the filter menu.
Sorry for the spoiler. But, really, I think there are books that deserve to be read more than this one... It was cute and all, but still
Anyway, thanks again!
