I like her methods. I used one of her methods to teach my dog not to tug on the leash. Instead of yanking it, or useing chock and pinch colars, i just stopped when she tugged on the leash until the dog sat down or stopped then continued. Eventually my dog realized "if i tug on the leash my owner will stop. If i don't tug on the leash, i get to the destination faster." XD She's doing much better now. (of course you should use this method when they are tiny puppies and can't yank your arm off)
I also agree with her on shock collars, pincher collars, and chocker collars. They are the most barbaric things in exitance. I've seen her get pissed off at somebody for using a shock collar on a dog and even had that person use the collar on themself at a low setting. Even lower then they had set for the dog. She'll make sure the owner gets to see the situation through the dog's eyes.
The only time she's actually failed at training the dog was when the owners couldn't even be BOTHERED to follow her methods or put ANY effort into training the dog. And personally I don't blame her. No her methods arn't easy but they work.
Positive working DOES work. I used it when I started to walk my dog. She used to not even be willing to go beyond the first step of my house. So I thought perhaps a bit of positive reinforcement would help. I praised her i used chicken, i pretty much was like "COME ON ROSIE COME ON GOOD GIRL YOUR DOING GOOD!" I looked like an idiot doing that, and i don't need to do it anymore (THANK GOD) but now when i say walk she jumps around getting excited and runs to the door and waits for me to grab the leash. Yup positive reinforcement might have worked a little too well for that. Walks a forbidden term in my house.
I also used one of her tutorials to teach a dog how to not tug on the leash. She was a small dog but i was a bit worried it could end up causing harm to her throat with that collar of hers being the only thing stopping her. I just swapped to a harness and stopped when she tugged on the leash and waited till she stopped standing there for a few seconds before continuing. It actually works quite well. She never tugs on the leash anymore.
She isn't a perfectly behaved dog that does all these fancy tricks. She doesn't return the ball when I say fetch *cause she doesn't know she's supposed to do that* but I can say her idea of positive reinforcement does wonders to a dog. You get MUCH further then you do using barbaric methods like shock collars, chock collars, and pinch collars.
I just wish the people that use those things on their dogs would test them on themselves. They'd quickly take away those barbaric devices if they could ONLY feel the pain it causes the dogs.

You know I used to like Ceasar. Until I realized just HOW barbaric his methods were.
I used some positive reinforcement with walking my dog. It used to be she was scared to leave the house. Now I say walk she runs to the door and waits for the leash wiggling her little butt. She also used to tug on the leash. I used one method she taught in this tutorial, XD she's gotten much better with the tugging on the leash.

i like that one episode where she was in the woods and she made 23940285092385035 signs with yellow paper saying stuff like "oh a rabbit" "hay wuts that over there!?!" "whats that smell?"
to represent the dogs distractions xD

I love the show. Its so funny seeing a small British lady make those high pitched noises at dogs!
But I still think she looks like a dominatrix in the intro. What with her whip and black leather outfit.

I'll be using this! I love Stilwell, she's a bright hope for TV dog trainers after the disaster of Cesar Millans techniques.

Thanks!
And in a sense I agree, but I like Millan's technique. His work doesn't endanger the dog physically or mentally when properly handled. Any technique can be wrongly and dangerously applied (even Stilwell's)--personally, I think the fault lies more in the viewer who doesn't take the advised caution rather than Caesar. In reality, both trainers are working from basically the same principles of dog behavior and pack order; Stilwell's is indeed more accessible to general public without special training, basically, which is undeniably a good thing, especially in the sense of it being a widely accessible television show. But even still, no one should work SOLELY from a television show to train their dog.
But for folks who watch the Dog Whisperer with the same regard they would watch, for instance, Parelli, Roberts, or the other Horse Whisperers, Millan is fascinating--and his work is positive; it just involves less treats and more natural behavior studies, like you said.
And Caesar says it too--it's not about dog training, but rehabilitation, which is definitely more of behavior study and development than a training with vocal commands and treats.
Anyway, all that to say thanks for the comment! woo!

Oh, don't get me wrong - I respect Cesar and his way with handling dogs, I just don't agree with how aversive based his work is. Nor am I shouldering all the blame on him when simpletons who have no idea what they're doing attempt his techniques at home. When an average Joe or Mary has a dog, for instance, with severe aggression towards children, the owner of the dog should hire a recommended behaviorist that specializes in the aggression department - not attempt altering that behavioral issue at home, as it can result in disaster, injury to either the dog or the owner/child, or it could even make matters worse - thus, the owner's mistake. But when an average Joe or Mary has a dog, for instance that barks nonstop, it's fairly simple if the owner is willing to make a commitment to stop his/her dog's excessive barking - of course, in a humane, non-aversive way.
That's just what I attempted to point out. I do not like aversive techniques. In my "experience", training all five of my dogs and working with some shelter dogs with positive reinforcement, even without treats or food, plenty of praise and enthusiasm goes a long way. My dogs go ecstatic when I praise them for going potty, even though most of my dogs have been potty trained for 5 & ^ years. They all just love hearing "Good Girl!"
Just my opinion.

Awesome woman, awesome show.
Seeing her take control, and put the pets and owners in line, that dominance is rather sexy. lol

My parents (well, my mom anyway...) LOVE the Dog Whisperer! Mom got a dog that was neglected and possibly "lightly" abused from the shelter/adoption place and she says that the Dog Whisperer has helped so much!
What'd you use to animate it? I thought you didn't have an animation thing-a-ma-giggy?
