My sisters say that the house we lived in as children is haunted, they had apparitions when they were downstairs, and I have to admit when I was ascending the stairs I could always feel someone behind me almost urging me to climb faster.

Wow!!That must have been very creepy!!!Some new houses were built   on fields just near where I live ....One house was on the part where an oldfarm had been.They had the same thing as you had,,Something on the stairs....and a t times a dim light....even when their lights were not on.

Yes, the Shining is a classic horror film and a very good one. The Evil Dead is one that completely freaked me out when I was younger.

Yeeks Marc!!!!!I only saw the trailer of the Evil Dead on You tube....I couldn't even watch that!!Don't like zombies either.....I did however read a new set of novels that had the walking dead in them.Cause I couldn't see them they were o'k!!I know they were in my mind but it wasn't like seeing them in life or in films!!

The film is rather shocking, I guess that's why it got to me, and I don't recommend it if you're skittish.
