It was inspired by the author's own son, who had ADHD and dyslexia (like me) and so he decided to write a book (or rather... two series of books) about demigods (children of the gods) who generally have ADHD and/or dyslexia. It's really fun, with lots of humor (I laughed too many times) and feels (cried too much) and awesomely weaves in elements of the myths.
The first book is about a boy named Percy Jackson who has a semi-crappy life. All of that changes one day as he and his mother and friend race against time to have Percy arrive at a place inexplicably intertwined with his father, when they are attacked by a rather nasty monster. Battles, lots of suspense and badassery. In the end of it all, he is forced to embark on a quest that, if he fails, will tear apart the world.
