I used a number 2 Windsor & Newton series 7 brush for all serious inking and for sketching I use pentel or zebra brush pens.

I did this from what I remember the Alex Raymond artwork looking like so it may have strayed away from the source a little

My inks do too when scanned in, I then adjust the levels in photoshop to make the blacks as black as possible and the take out as much grey as I can.
