Description One of the reasons I got into art is because of the Myst and Riven games. Riven was released in 1998, and I still think it's one of the best looking things ever made. These paintings are inspired by it.

These look exactly like imagery from the Myst saga.

Fantastic artwork, you really should be selling these. I did put a call out some time back on the Myst Community forum for artists and authors who wanted to showcase their work through my website Rivenworld.com, would love to see some more Myst and Riven inspired work.

Very very talented, love this.

I agree with you about the beauty of Myst and especially Riven. I love these paintings of yours, reminding me of one of the best part of Riven.
Actually, I haven't yet seen better-looking environments in another game or original movie. This is just super unique and deeply inspired.

Thanks Ludo38! Β I still play Riven (or, rather, watch Dilandau3000's Let's Play on youtube) to be inspired by its rich world. Β Glad you like these paintings.

I didn't think I could like you and your work any more, and then I saw this. Ah Riven. It completely captivated me. All those games did.

Love this stuff. The effort behind those games is quite inspiring, and Riven especially. Everything about the visuals and the audio was so well put together, it created a completely immersive experience. Great work!

God I LOVED those games.. they're pretty inspiring! I wish I knew where my drawing disappeared to, I drew a few Myst-inspired drawings too.. I don't know if anything will ever Rival Riven as far as scenary, and photo-realism.

I absolutely love these. Especially the bottom one. It has a certain... (for lack of a better word) mysterious quality about it.

And I second what numinous80 said: I would believe these actually were concept art for Riven or Exile.

numinous80 [2012-04-24 11:52:32 +0000 UTC]

Very beautiful artwork and indeed very reminiscent of Riven, my favourite "game" of all time (cause we all know Riven was real ). I would even believe these were concept art for the actual game if someone had have presented them to me as such!

I created a site "Riven Illuminated" [link] devoted to every detail of Riven I loved it so much.

I really like these paintings. They are so myst-like, exactly the sort of environments you might find in a Myst game, yet not a direct copy of anything.

I never played the games, so I cannot make the connection between them and these paintings, but I still like them on their own. Especially the bottom one caught my eye with this nice edge, the strong contrast of dark and light, the cast shadows...and that subtle but wonderful glint on the post. Your work always reminds me a bit of Jeremy Vickery's images, which just strike you with their light and colours. Well done!

Riven had the best atmosphere of any game ever but it was so hard I couldn't finish it. I got to the marble puzzle and thought I had it all correct but never got it to work. I like that third pic with the dif colored lighting effects

MarcoBucci In reply to pixel-putty [2011-03-09 22:10:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah Riven was impossibly hard. I was only 16 when it came out, so I had to cheat for most of it. I still "play" it today, just to click around.

pixel-putty In reply to MarcoBucci [2011-03-09 23:52:41 +0000 UTC]

my favorite as far as gameplay but a little less on atmosphere was Myst 3: Exile. The puzzles were a little easier and a little more contained rather than all the note taking for later use. Plus the bonus roller coaster ride at the end was pretty sweet!

melanie68 In reply to pixel-putty [2011-04-07 09:48:08 +0000 UTC]

... I won't say how old I was when I played them ...I had to cheat through a lot of them!! lol
(the roller coaster ride was awesome!! ...might play it again!!)
...but on to the important topic: I Love your artwork !! As soon as I saw it I felt as if I was back in one of the games!!
...sorry for waffling!! lol

Thanks Jeremy. Pretty impressive how they were able to build and render those massive environments with 1997 computers. Must have been a nightmare...but I'm glad they did it!

Hello, Marco.
I love your video on YouTube, the ways you get a painting that goes from the abstract to the real, speaking of light, shadow ... its arts and movies are always inspiring.
Excuse my English, I use a translator.

I've always felt really attracted to those games, but didn't have a PC back then... are they easily playable or you have to get some sort of emulator?
lovely paintings and textures, I love the 3rd the most.

Pretty sure all you need to do is run them in compatibility mode for win98 or earlier.
