Last winter I sold my Weerd Bag Mk II [link] so that I could afford to purchase the materials to make myself a new bag. I wanted a new bag because my skills have improved since Mk II and I wanted a piece that would reflect my current ability. So this bag is the result of several generations of bags. and I can still find ways to improve upon this design...

With this bag, I wanted to try my hand at a new design idea. Inspired by Entermodal [link] a local, high quality hand bag shop here in Portland, I wanted to make a full sized briefcase/backpack with as few large pieces as possible and as few seams as possible. I got rid of the three long seams and joined the front and back to the bottom and sides. There's only a seam on each side. The tricky part was riveting the partition in the middle to the sides.

The whole concept behind making something with as few pieces as possible is that it increases its upcycle capabilities. Once this bag looses its usefulness as a backpack (what, in like a hundred years?) it can be disassembled and turned into something else more easily because the pieces are larger.

This is made from the "stoned oil" chrome tanned leather that Tandy/LeatherFactory sells and lined with a green pig suede that I got from a local fabric store. All hand sewn construction.
