If your remember the MLP G1 episode "The Bright Lights"?This is how would Knight Shade look in its G4 version, a bit darker tone.

Some-day, they need to bring Knight Shade back and into the world of Equestria as a villain.
By far the coolest villain from the first generation of MLP that I love.

Well, not exactly a villain, I was analyzing the episode yesterday and happened to notice some references to evil. Knight Shade was tempted by a shapeless creature similar to Voldemort or the Sith Lord in order to achieve success. He could have backed and chose to live a life of misery but he had to pay such a huge price such as working to steal the "shadows" of ponies.
Now Galaxy pointed out that "shadows" are actually an equivalent of souls or spirits for ponies since they represent what gives them substance and energy.
Knight Shade reforms and helps the ponies fight this devilish creature with the aid of the Flutter Ponies.
If I acted so morally I would say that episode was one of the darkest and almost demonic but then again so was "Rescue At Midnight Castle". I guess Hasbro wasn't very conscious at the time when these episodes were written or censorship or criteris was rather weak for the 80s. I always thought the Knight Shade character was sort of ambiguous like Prince, the singer.
