The Imaginarium
Hel (named Hela in the Marvel movie) is a north mythological goddess. Daughter of Loki and a giantess. She has been assigned by Odin to be the keeper of the dead in a realm that took her name.
The picture depict the pleading of Hermod (messenger of the Gods), who came to Hel to beg her the return of his brother among the livings.
See the Wiki page about Hel for more and better information...
It was interesting to work with an imposed stock. Here I wanted to mix the Marvel movie concept with the mythological story and tried to conciliate both of them.
The mythological Hel is the daughter of a giantess and, so it is told, is a giant herself with the blue skin of her kind. Hel is half dead and half living.
I worked mainly with photomanipulation/photobashing techniques and mixed with some digital painting.
Here I did an interpretation of Hermod before Hela of J.C. Dollman witch I think is a great piece both in concept and storrytelling.
Artists as you are, it is also interesting to look at the original concept art the movie used to creat Hela, you can find it on Artstation here
