I really like inquiring into the life of famous historical figures; Vlad Țepeș, or Vlad the Impaler, or Dracula, is one of them. In 1444 his father had to send him and his younger brother Radu (later known as Radu the Handsome) to the Ottoman Empire as hostages. Vlad and Radu spent about four years there. In my drawing Vlad is about 18, and Radu is about 10. Vlad is wiping his yataghan, deep in grave thoughts about his homeland Transylvania. He hates the Ottomans. And Radu is just enjoying himself; he likes it here. Later Radu will convert to Islam and enter Ottoman service.
