Oh, I love the trees on the right hand side - They look really sad, old and hanging like willows, but then there's the left hand side with the tree that looks like it's shining in holy light makes the painting not so gloomy.
I think I'm wrong, but I think the red part is a forest fire. O__O

from me I did something similar as well as machine men towers[link]
that is to say creating interesting wash like surfaces and depth through hot cold color contrast. Let me know if you agree.
