Description In 1996,only a year after the fall uf the USSR,Russia couldn't keep the maintenance work on it's non-military ships,so the Grand Federal Republic of The Argentina came with the idea of buy a cargo ship
The Sevmorput Class Cargo Ship was the most expensive one to be kept in the best onditions, and Argentina required a new Aircraft Carrier for their Navy
In 1997 they would buy it and start a 5 year modification plan for it,so Astillero Rio Santiago started hard working on it,to reduce costs they decided to use a ramp launcher with JBDs instead of a Catapult, they made a second track for landing, and added only 3 Elevators to it
FAdeA also was making a new plane for the Navy and the Aircraft carrier,so they worked with the help of Dassault Group, they came with the idea of making a modified Raphale(which was still in development at that age),so they finally built the IA-80 "Gaviota Cazadora",an aircraft that was very similar to the Raphale, but it had no Canards or Refuel Probe, and it was smaller.
In 2004 the Carrier was finally presented,it was named ARA "General San Martín" in honor to a figure of Argentina,it had 3 elevators, 4 wires,2 JBDs that ended in a single ramp and a capacity of 30-50 aircrafts with 9,700 active personnel, the project was considered as the best of it's time and it was a very essential part of the Argentinian Navy
