Description

Entering his bedroom, he placed her on the work desk and removed all the scattered worksheets, homework, and paperwork. Emily was quite curious what was going on in that gigantic head of his. “I’m sorry. I don’t mean to be a pain… it’s just that when I was really little, my parents ran off in a storm like this and, well, I never saw them again.” She said as he sifted through drawers. “Wow, really? Well, then how come you were outside in the storm when I found you?” Derek asked. “Well, it really only freaks me out when the lightning does that weird blinking thing and the thunder echoes. Regular thunderstorms I enjoy!” with a light chuckle he finally gets up out of the drawers and places things around her carefully. “Here ya go.” Derek finally said as he handed her her dwarfed pencil in his huge digits. “What is going on in your head? I can’t take it much longer!” Emily said as she watched him with such intensity.

With another laugh, he stated as he sat down on the desk chair, “Show me how you do those drawings of yours. I would like to try, well if you have the patience for me.” With a good hard laugh, Emily placed her pencil behind her ear and said, “Sure! You are talking to someone who has lived in the forest all her life… What do you want to draw?” “I don’t know. I haven’t done anything like this before…” he replied with a grin escaping his face as he felt better knowing his idea was working. He was able to distract her from the storm! “What do you want to draw? You are the expert…” rubbing her chin in thought she looked around for some inspiration. “How about a stingray?” she asked with a laugh bursting out with the memory of their aquarium visit. “Sure!” he replied with a laugh. Watching her draw was quite fascinating and just had fun watching her have fun.

Hours flew by as the storm and their fun was coming to a close. “Well, the storm is lightening up and it is coming close to having to eat dinner.” Derek finally said as he looked at the time on the alarm clock on the desk and out the window. Placing his hand down, Emily climbed aboard and sat down as they headed for the kitchen. Placing her on the kitchen table, he headed for the pantry and fridge. “Thanks.” Emily said randomly. “Why? What for?” he asked. “For helping me through the storm. Usually I am much worse. I’ll make it up to ya!” she stated excitedly. With a light chuckle, he replied, ” How? And it was no big deal.” Thinking hard, Emily then had an idea pop into her head. “I know! Biology is it?” “Yeah… why? What’s going on in your little brain of yours?” he asked as they ate their meal. “Well, it just so happens I am a complete nerd with stuff like that.” Emily said with a wide grin. “Is that why you are such an aquatic fan?” he asked her as took the dishes off the table and put them in the dishwasher.

“Well, I guess you could look at it like that… I really was just into it because of the animals!” She stated as she headed down off the table with her excellent borrower skills. “Where do you usually read your books?” With a laugh, he replied “Well, usually all that stuff is saved for the desk or the couch. The reading is usually on the couch.” “Race ya there!” Emily yelled off as she broke out into a full run for the oversized piece of furniture. Rolling his blue eyes at her he walked over to the couch carefully watching his every move to make sure. “What took you so long? I thought beings where faster than that!” she yelled out with a hard laugh, She was sitting in the center, on top of his Biology book in a child’s crisscross applesauce position. “you’re quick! You are pretty fast for your size.” He chuckled as he sat down on the couch and placed his pointer finger and thumb on her sides. He then grabbed the big book underneath her and brought the two over.

He then placed her down next to him as he flipped to his first chapter. Getting a little antsy, Emily then scaled up her giant friend’s shirt and plopped down on top of his shoulder to get a better view. “Here we go chapter one out of three. Ready?” “As ever! Let’s get started!”
