Identification
Name: Mordekai
Gender: Cis male
Age: 24
Herd:
Rank:
Appearance
Breed: Painted Arabian, common horse. Buckskin coat with tobiano markings
Mother’s genes: American Painted, common horse. Palomino coat with tobiano markings
Father’s genes: Arabian, pegasus. Bay roan coat, sabino markinga
Basic appearance: Mordekai is less elegant than the common Arabian, as he’s half Painted. Therefore he appears more “buff” so to say, but that’s not saying he can’t be elegant if he tried! His coat is a dull chestnus like colour, commonly referred to as a “buckskin” coat. He’s taking after his mother with his markings, having overo tobiano markings - taking this after his grandparents rather than directly from his mother. He definitely takes his mane after his father though, as it’’s rather silky (except when it’s cut short, where it ends up a bit rougher/wavier/curlier)

Personal information
Personality:
{charming}-{truth-teller}-{loyal}-{daring}-{stubborn}-{oblivious}-{gentle}-{calm}-{proud}
Mordekai will at first usually strike you as quite the charmer. He uses this particularly when it comes to his wares - being a seller is easier if you’re charming. Of course he didn’t just stumble upon this, it’s a trait he got from his father. Besides being charming, he’s rather daring - in the stubborn and stupid way. He isn’t particularly brave to be quite honest - if he gets a dare or someone says “you can’t do this”, he’s on it in an instant (and often only too late realizes that it was a bad idea). This stems back from having to prove himself a lot through dares - a trait he hasn’t outgrows. This also goes with him being oblivious - oblivious (and blind some would say) to danger. This of course also applies to other things - if you’re flirting back at him, he’ll probably not realize it as anything other than playing back at him. Please be direct with him, he can be a bit dull. Despite this, you can definitely tell that Mordekai is also a truth-teller and loyal to his family and herd (and therefore this daring trait is also seen if situations where something dangerous is happening, where he’ll run headfirst into it). As a truth-teller, if it’s a dare he’ll always admit his faults after he has been proven wrong. Otherwise he’ll always tell the truth unless it’s immoral to him.
In private you’ll find Mordekai to be way more gentle than you’d think. Others usually think of him as the stupidly daring guy with the way too charming smile - someone who can and cannot be trusted (who knows?). In reality Mordekai way more calm and collected when alone, working with his craft in peace. He won’t admit it personally, but he’s actually really proud to take up a craft that is something that creates colour in the otherwise brown and dull wasteland he lives in. Of course, if you’re a customer, you’ll hear about how this he’s the best in all of Hierath, but in person? He’s actually just very proud of his craft and hope to get more known - and liked - in Serora.
tl;dr: Honestly a really soft, innocent momma's boy, who tries to act tough, but mostly ends up in bad situations because of that. Tries to charm his way around, especially when it comes to his wares, but is otherwise really kind and protective of his family and friends. Also really insecure to be honest, but doesn't show it and insteads shows how proud he is of following in his mom's footsteps.
History:
“open your eyes”
Mordekai was born in Serora Herd to two loving parents: Roan and Kleo. His father was a fury, a fighter of air, one of Alya’s soldiers. This was always how his mother said it, proud to have him as a husband. Mordekai was equally as proud of his father - despite not knowing a lot of what it was and what it actually meant. His mother lived a more calm lifestyle: she had taken up crafting long before Mordekai was even born, dealing with glass and all the things she could make with it. Mordekai was fascinated with this, especially how one could create such intricate designs in such small things! Seeing as his father was out and about a lot - training, being a mentor or guarding - Mordekai grew up much more calm than his parents had imagined. Admittedly this didn’t last that long, but they appreciated it while it lasted. Mordekai helped out his mother with her wares, helping in the workshop and was a little helper to her. He was sometimes mocked for being so “boring”, not often going outside to be with others his age - he rather liked staying with his mom.
“wolves are coming”
Alas times change and so did Mordekai. As the youngster entered his teenage years, so did those around him. His once calm demeanor changed - he refused to stand by and be called boring. So he entered the dares the others constantly gave each other - most had unfair advantages, since most of those in the neighbourhood were pegasi - but Mordekai was too stubborn to stop. His mother got concerned about this when Mordekai occasionally would return home with cuts and bruises from the dares - which got worse and worse as the years passed. It was one certain event that both made those dares stop - and made Mordekai realize this wasn’t the way to go.
One specific dare took place away from Osulas - away from the roads, into territory inhabited by wild animals. Luka, one of the pegasi in the little group of dares they had, gave Mordekai the dare: go fetch a feather from one of the birds. This sounded… almost too easy for Mordekai, but he didn’t think further about it: it was easy, so why bother pass? What Mordekai didn’t realize was that the specific area he was pointed to was home to a flock of prairie wolves. So soon after entering their territory, Mordekai was chased back out by the whole flock. This left the teen with quite the cuts and bite marks, as he had been too terrified to properly fight back - he just had to get away. So when he came back to the others, bleeding and beaten, they just laughed at him. His mother was worried sick after this, hoping Mordekai would soon leave this behind - it hadn’t done him any good.
Mordekai soon participated in his ceremony of The Rising Wind. Going without food and sleeping was hard enough for him - mostly the food part. But going out, trekking out in nothing, to receive a vision from Alya? It sounded impossible. But trek he did. It felt like the day was stretching into the impossible, when he came upon a small meteor hole filled with water. Was it a sign? And from who? Taking a drink, the youngster suddenly felt elevated, disconnected from himself. As if he went into himself, wasn’t there, anything but how he’d normally feel. Flashes of colours and sunlight filled his vision before he returned to his normal state. A subtle sign, but Mordekai knew what it was about - it wasn’t something he hadn’t expected: crafting. When he told his mom, she was overjoyed.
“mouth of the river”
So Mordekai took up his mother’s craft, carefully following her instructions on the work. He already knew a lot from observing her when he was younger, so taking it up on his own proved easy enough. Roan wasn’t disappointed in his son, luckily. Admittedly Mordekai had been worried about it - a son who had been calm, finally became daring (and perhaps even brave), but took up a craft like this. But Roan proved supportive of his son’s decision, of which Mordekai was ever grateful for. It wasn’t many years after that he finally moved out - getting his own workshop closer to inner parts of the city. He still frequently visits his parents. As he get more comfortable with his craft, he took up herbs and medicine too, creating small bundles for Saviours to pick up when travelling. As he got further into it, he started travelling. He knew most of his wares would be needed in the nomadic groups. On the other hand, Mordekai started to go out more, finding it helpful to travel to the nomadic groups to give out his wares, that they perhaps needed. It was here he encountered Eyrin for the first time, with whom he got a close relationship to during his stays with his group.
in game:
During the drought and the agreement with Aodh, Mordekai held a relatively low profile. He tried to make sure he could just export his wares - but the water he needed in his work had to go to himself. He still travelled around, meeting up with Eyrin, who lost a few close to him in the drought. Mordekai tried to lift his spirits when he visited, bringing things he could get in Osulas, for Eyrin. When it comes to the agreement itself, Mordekai was heavily against it - Serora wasn't welcome to slaves, just to sell them out like that. He of course understood why, but he didn't support it. For now, he's just happy they have water again - but worried about the upcoming war. He can feel the tug of it, knowing that his father will be fighting and he himself won't be able to do anything at all. He hates feeling this helpless, but there isn't much he can do. Luckily he still talks with Eyrin whenever he can get a message through, which largely makes him feel better.
Baram is our new Sultan... I'm not sure what to think of this, but he seems like a good enough guy. I've been lucky to meet him a few times before this happened - but I'm excited to see where this leads - especially with the treaty with Talori.. As for more happier notes, Eyrin and I've been talking a lot more - and,,, we're actually together now! It's long distance as it can be, but it's all worth it when we see each other again.
With Alya back and the Flight in our herd, things are getting more and more tense and weird. It'll probably turn out alright, but the war is not something I look forward to. I sent a leader to Baram though and I'm not officially a screamer! I'm going to find his group and stay with him from now on, protecting him and his group from dangers.
I.. I failed to protect Eyrin. I couldn't go with him, and now look at him. I need to look after Pangolin, and Eyrin doesn't want me to be concerned, but I can't help it. At least we're both stuck inside of the oasis.
Both Eyrin and Pangolin are doing well enough, so Mordekai is feeling better too. To show his love, Mordekai got Eyrin a waxed sunflower. Eyrin's response was a proposal, and Mordekai is happy, yet more eager than ever to protect his family. During this time in the Oasis, he also met Danaë who built Eyrin's wheelchair. She has a daughter, so the two met through a playdate between Lucie and Pangolin. Also met Ishmael , who he tries to look out for, due to the hippocampus' weakness to the sun, as well as being seen as a bit of an odd face. Mordekai tries his best to make him feel welcome.
Serora finally gets a peace treaty with Aodh, and Mordekai shares Eyrin's mixed feelings about it. Generally he's just happy for there to be peace once again, and looks forward to helping rebuilding Osulas.
Quirks, habits and favourite things:
Has a deep deep admiration and respect for furies.
Deep protector feelings - latest "victim" is Ishmael
Sunflowers are his (and Eyrin's) signature flower
Familiars:
Levi
A seemingly lost serval that Mordekai stumbled upon, during one of his visits to Eyrin. The serval followed Mordekai, after that he decided to take him to an imbuer, wanting to keep the serval for company. It's a very calm and cautious creature, who doesn't do much but relax. However when accompanying Mordekai on a journey, he's very aware of the possible dangers and will keep an eye out for any he sees.
Relationships
Romantic orientation: Bisexual
Sexual orientation: Bisexual
Partner: Eyrin
Got together in the late spring of 1700, but the two have known each other for quite a while - just never got to really talk much before the drought happened. Since then, things have taken off and in the summer of 1701, Eyrin proposed to Mordekai. Mord has never been happier.
Adopted daughter: Pangolin
Family:
Mother: Hanna, alive, the folk
Father: Roan, alive, fury
Siblings:
Amaranthe | outcast
Met by accident to suddenly find that the kirin had vanished...
Danaë | the Folk
Met Danaë at a playdate, where Danaë's daughter Lucie and his own, Pangolin, met to play. Danaë also built Eyrin's wheelchair.
Ishmael | Mullah
Met Ishmael in the oasis. Was slightly surprised to see the bright hippocampus in the middle of a desert, getting (almost) burnt by the sun. After the initial surprise, Mordekai tries to help the hippocampus out and make him feel welcome - and help him out, should he get in trouble or need anything medical, which Mordekai always carries with him, because he gets a few supplies from Eyrin, just in case.

The golden cat sat in silence, glancing at the gathered cats, as he heard Judas tell the hunter, Kenya wasn't it..?, to keep an eye on him. Typical. He wasn't Laertes. Those who were like him, they had joined him. Their own little "Empire" to take down the Hunters.
A serval, a tribune he assumed, smiled at him. Judas was already scolding the guy, so Julius just nodded without a word. He didn't want him to get into trouble. He could be turned later.
Looking around, as the first question was in the air, he noticed a pale brown-ish cat look at the tiger almost... Knowingly. He sighed. "You do realize it was only one cat who made that plan. And killed those tribunes. He was exiled for that. None of us would do that, unless insane or desperate. Wouldn't surprise me if he was. Made an Empire dedicated to kill you guys too. Be aware of Stone, not the rest" That was all he was going to give away.
"Judas we're not all criminals. This all has two points of view, and we're all guilty somehow" He turned to the hybrid, whose brother he knew all to well.
Another hunter had joined, apparently the new Silver. Azrael was his name, a rather pale looking lion. Julius bowed his head, paying his respects to the lion.
"Judas, and all you tribunes and apprentices... You need to understand that we do this for our family. Maribel was it..? If you had come here, not knowing you had a family, but you were suddenly pitted against a member and you both realised you were kin.. Would you just kill them? In cold blood, not caring about their family at home? Or would you join them, your family and leave this place behind? I made a choice, one I believed was right." He said, his voice almost a growl at the last words. "Don't think I don't know what the Hunters are like. The Empires can be bad too and you should look after Stone, not us. Not anymore. Maybe it's better to leave it all, leave Hunters and Empires behind and actually be free..? I'm gonna stay though. At home" He growled, slowly taking steps forward with each sentence. They needed to understand.
