Description  These past two days heavy fog fell over the area of bay of Bakar, a port for bulk cargo, which is non existent in this photograph
due to extreme fog condition. The stone walls (dry stone terraces) on the photo were built in the 18th century, during the reign
of Mary Theresa. With her permission, local population cleared the ground and planted vineyards. The obtained parcels women
filled with soil brought on their shoulders in baskets, and then planted with vines “Belina”. From those grapes the well known
sparkling vine, Bakarska vodica was made. In 1972, dry stone terraces were proclaimed protected landscape (ethno zone)
and were registered as a cultural monument. These dry walls are called “Takala”, meaning “poured all the way to the sea,”
in the local dialect. After being neglected for more than half a century, PZ Dolčina Praputnjak started in 2002 the restoration
of dry stone walls and planting the original vine sorts, producing the sparkling vine “Stara Bakarska Vodica”.
