Description I think is well known that the same reality is perceived differently according with the vintage point we choose to look at. I wanted to represent the thin veil that may cover actual things and how we perceive them.

i often find mandlebulbs a bit scary or suffocating - i'm always glad to come across a really pleasant one like this...

Very imaginative work!

Is the (strong) color-banding intentional? And a wee anti-aliasing on the round cutouts wouldn't have hurt either. Great work nonetheless.

The color banding is about 1% of the original drafts. Impossible to eliminate. As for anti-aliasing, yes, I think I can give it a try to improve it. Maybe I will make a new piece adressing these two and some other issues I have when rendering big sizes.

In thumbnail view I thought it depicted young children peeping through holes in colourful foam rubber...

There are veils everywhere but in some places they are wearing very thin.

They look fine, but I know what you mean. I spend the most time on the colors and still never come away satisfied. I guess it all comes with practice.
