Luigi, next to Mario, is probably my all time favorite character in all of media. However, I'm gonna be honest here and say that he has probably the WORST fanbase out of all the Mario characters. I mean seriously, the rabid Luigi fans absolutely drive me nuts. They constantly go on and on about how underrated Luigi is when in reality he's not even that underrated. He's usually the secondary protagonist in most (if not all) Mario games and believe it or not he's not even that overshadowed. In Super Mario 64 DS one of the Toads is actually a huge fan of Luigi and even goes as far as to say that it should be the Super Luigi Bros. instead. And in Paper Mario TTYD, Luigi even has his own fan club and in the Mario & Luigi games despite some not remembering his name, he does have actually have a fair amount of fans and people that recognize him. He's far from underrated.

Alot of Luigi fans constantly worship Luigi as if he's some kind of God or something and treat Mario as if he's the Hitler of the Mario series. I find it funny how people constantly attack Mario all for one stupid cutscene in Mario Power Tennis, which for the most is meant to be for comic relief purposes yet Luigi jumping off of Mario's head in Melee is perfectly acceptable. I mean geez, you guys act as if Mario kicked Luigi in the balls or something. Hell, Luigi wasn't even hurt by the foot stomp. Yet, if Luigi does even one thing to Mario you guys treat him as if he's the hero of the century.

Whenever someone says that Luigi is better than Mario, then answers I usually hear are:

-he jumps higher

-he wears green

-he has a better personality

First off, while Luigi may jump higher, he's also been shown to be slower than Mario. For the most part, Mario and Luigi aren't really that different and are pretty balanced out. I fail to see how wearing a certain color automatically makes you better. Luigi has a better personality than Mario? How so? The only thing he really has that differates him from Mario is the fact that he isn't as brave. Other than that, he's not really too different from Mario. And to be perfectly honest with you guys, the whole "cowardly underdog" thing doesn't really appeal to me. To me it just seems like Nintendo turned him into a cowardly joke character. I personally liked his character and personality from the N64 days better when he was the more mature and laid back out of the two bros. Now I'm sure I'm probably going to get alot of hate for saying that, but that's how I feel. That's why I usually portray Luigi differently when it comes to fanfics and fandom in general. I also treat him in equal standards in regards to Mario

But yeah, don't get me wrong, I don't hate Luigi at all. He's one of my all-time favorite characters next to Mario himself.
