Casey's butt ached. Her fingernails were soggy. Her back was sore. How long had she been sitting here? It was dark so it had been at least a couple hours because it had been light out still when she was coming home from the treehouse... Sully. Sully. Sully. The theme of her numbness. When she first got home she had been so confused that she couldn't even make it to her bed. She landed just short of her bed with her back rest against it.

For about ten minutes she had fries and a hot fudge sundae (although both were quite squashed from their fall) to keep herself grounded, but when she ran out of food her fingers kept her mouth satisfied. It was a horrible habit, chewing her nails, but she could never seem to stop. Sully's nervous tick was wrangling his hands in his lap....just like he did at the treehouse...right before he kissed her. Dang it! It happened again, she thought of that kiss again. That kiss, that kiss, that kiss. Sully, Sully, Sully!

'Stop it, Case' she thought,' we can't just keep dancing around the subject, it's time to figure out how I feel!' How did she feel? That's the question of the year. About the kiss? It felt nice, really scary and surprising but when you got past that, it was pleasant, kinda warm and sweet. And there was something to it that made the kiss seem bigger than just a kiss. Okay, so she knew how she felt about kissing Sully...

...but how did she feel about Sully, himself?

She loved him. She knew that, heck, she known that since the third day of kindergarten when he showed her the wonder of video games and she beat his butt bad as soon as she learned the control. Casey knew that Sully was the greatest person in the wide world that day because when she beat him at his own game and instead of crying and quitting, he laughed and asked if they could play again the next day. She has loved him for years but the real thing eating at her was how she loved him. As friend or something more? Oh, why did he have to kiss her and make her so confused? Why did she have to go to the tree house!?

Wait a sec. The tree house! How on Mars could she forget? They have kissed before. Well, to be more specific Casey had kissed Sully. It seemed so long ago but now that she thought of it the memory came to her clearly. The summer between third and fourth grade Casey's mom married Mr. Lavonazitch, Casey and Sully's beloved third grade science teacher. Alan Lavonazitch and Katherine Wiggins met at a parent-teacher conference to discuss Casey and Sully's little 'experiment' and they had a date a week later and were engaged two months later. Casey's dad had died a year before but Katherine had known about her husband's terminal illness for a long enough time to be mentally prepared for his death. To heartbroken Casey, her mother and new step-father's wedding was the fairy tale that she never believed in before. Not only did she get a new dad that was almost as wonderful as her real father, but she also got a princess-obsessed baby sister, Lucy.

So, still dressed in their wedding outfits, little Casey and Sully escaped to their recently completed treehouse. They were giggling and dancing and high on sugar, happy that world's best teacher was now a part of their of mismatch family. Lucy had filled Casey's head of tales of romance and the wedding smothered her with ideas of love. She looked over at Sully and thought 'What if Sully is my prince? He looks like the princes in Lucy's books. Maybe Sully and I will be wedding'd and he can be my husband!' With those thoughts in mind she tried something that mommys do to daddys and that princesses (the warrior kick-butt kind obviously) do to princes (the kind with golden hair and goofy smiles), and she put her lips on his. Sully had pulled back and stuttered.

"C-casey! You gonna give me cuties! You're a girl, remember?"

"I didn't give you nothin', babybreath!"

"That's a flower, goofball." They tussled each other to the ground and didn't stop fighting until Sully lost his ninth baby tooth ever.

Casey smiled at the memory. Maybe she was right that day, maybe Sully is 'her prince'. She looked at the photo on her nightstand, ten-year-old Casey and Sully goofing off. Then she looked at her phone, there was something she needed to do.

Sully didn't feel good. Even the comfort of his favorite sleeping bag did nothing to ease the agony of ruining his relationship with his best friend and the girl of his dreams. He couldn't sleep and the only thing he could stomach was half a bag of stale potato chips. His head had been so deeply buried in his pillows that he almost didn't hear his phone buzzing on his nightstand.

"Uggggh..." he stared at his phone possessed with the happiness of a new message. Why couldn't his phone sound as miserable as he felt? He untangled his hand from his sleeping bag and dragged the phone into his blurred sight. It was text from Casey. 'Aww, great. I'm screwed.'

The message read. "Sully, meet at the corner between our streets tomorrow at seven. If you try to back out on me, I will drag your sorry butt out of your house by your hair! - Case." Casey was right to threaten him. Sully really really didn't want to go. What was Casey going to say to him? That they should stop hanging out? That they couldn't be friends anymore? That she could never love him? That she hates his guts for ruining everything? But Sully had to go, not only because Casey WOULD carry out her threat, but also because he needed to know. He had to know if he truly ruined their friendship. He hoped the only thing she would do is beat the life out of him and curse him like fairy tale witch.

Casey felt naked without her lucky hat. She felt ridiculous but Lucy had insisted that she looked "like a doll, but a Casey-doll." Casey smacked her lips, the lipstick felt alien to her, but having all this crap on her face wasn't too, too bad. She didn't regret asking Lucy for help. Her step-sister was a make-up wizard. Well, maybe not a wizard but Luc was a lot better at the girly stuff then Casey will ever be. Luc luckily had enough foresight to force Case into buying a dress in her "signature color" and she managed to tame Casey's hat hair and slap a minimal amount of makeup on her. Yet, Casey still looked like Casey just a wee bit girlier. Why isn't Sully here yet !?

Sully finally stepped around the corner to the meeting place, but his head was down. Sully still felt crappy and didn't want to be here. Casey was a little weirded out by his appearance. He looked like he slept in the clothes he was wearing and he had food stains and crumbs on his shirt. His eyes looked tired and were underlined with a blue that suggested that he hadn't really slept at all.

"Hey," Sully mumbled. He wanted this pathetic meeting to be over.

"Hey Sully, what happened to the spiffy outfit you had? I can't be looking better then you now can I?" At this Sully looked up to find.... Casey!?

"Oh," Sully managed to get out.

"Umm...wait. Crud, you thought that I was... and we were...I'm so sorry, Sully. I thought that you would just know what I meant and," Casey was freaking out, she didn't really know what to say. While, Sully turn away a bit. How could apologize for kissing her when all he wanted to do was kiss her again?

"Look Case, it was really dumb of me to... you know....but I would rather die then lose you as a friend."

"No! No, that's not what I meant when I said we needed to see each other," Casey had to turn a little bit away from him and with a guilty smile she said, "I kinda meant...A DATE!"

Sully's jaw dropped, "I'll be..um..right back!" With that, Sully took off running towards his place.

"What in the world is he doing?" Casey thought out loud. Faster than humanly possible, Sully back. He looked quite different from before. For starters, he no longer looked like a zombie with that wonderful goofy smile. He was now donning his handsome spiffy outfit, but his hair. Casey burst out laughing barely attempting to hide her mirth with her hand. Sully's hair was gelled back in same style that Mrs. Quest was always trying to make him wear.

"Ready!" Sully chirped. Casey just shook her head and came up real close to him. They never moved their gazes from each other's eyes. The loveliest of greens. The handsomest of blues. Casey ruffled Sully's hair back to the perfect way he normally has it and Sully wrapped his arms around Casey's back.

"Now, you're ready," Casey placed her hands on Sully's shoulders and exammed her messy work. For second time in two days and the third time ever, the two bestest friends in the whole wide world kissed.

When at last, they decided to breathe Sully said, "Italian?"

"Naw, let's get some of the good stuff!"

"French fries," they both said at once. After getting their Mickey D's, they ended up at a bench near the treehouse. This was were they shared their forth kiss ever. As well as the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth. Needless to say, Sully wore all the lipstick by the end of the night.
