Yeah, that, and the fact that the releases aren't so much linear anymore.
Pokémon as a whole might get a new 'echo boom', like what happened with Diamond and Pearl with the new games, considering Pokémon is far enough from the last boom to be introduced to a new generation. This lull is kind of what happened in the RSE era (GBC was hype due to its delayed release), because the 'boom' was too recent, and the 3DS was eh in popularity.) Pokespe was kind of in-between for those people, so a few years after DPPl. Note sure if manga is more or less niche nowadays though.
At least I hope, lol.
I went back into PokeSpe (because if I like it, may as well, I was in the same situation as you-plus, I need to read more), starting with the Ranger side-series (which exists, BTW) PokeSpe always has strong, if sometimes strange characters. Of course you tend to see the flaws, and it gets less 'special' (heh.), but it holds up a lot better than other things from my childhood. They need to hire a second artist, though, I feel like it's sometimes a race to finish the stories up before the next game, considering their yearly releases. Noticing the Ranger stuff especially is way too short for its own good.
