Goku is not like superman, he's selfish and likes to fight and only spares people so he can fight them again. The Eng Dub changed his character so the Goku you see in Super is how hes been since Dragonball. Not really a surprise to anyone that has watched the original.Related content

Yes! I totally agree with everything you said. I think that's why Goku in Super is controversial because some people don't realize how Good actually is. I myself have never seen the Japanese of Z, but I realize that the English Dub of Z has changed him a lot. It's nice to see someone trying to set the record straight without being a jerk about it (a lot of DBZ YouTubers are rude about it which turns people away from the truth.) Great picture by the way! I love the saturation of colors as well as Goku's expression β€

The Saiyans in general have a bad rap. Although actually highlight that Goku isn't a squeaky clean hero and actually making that a plot point instead of just implied is a nice change of pace. It's a little controversial (in the best of ways) and does add to the storytelling aspect of BDS. I have faith the universe survival arc will be great in both action and narrative. Β

Yea I agree, I love how they are making his character flaws a plot point. One of the good things about more fans watching the Japanese, they are meeting the real Goku for the first time. I know in the dub they changed his personality to fit more of a superman archetype because they didn't think most audiences could understand a complex hero like that. So looking forward to this arc!

The only thing is, Goku's just so peachy about the fact that his actions will in winning this tournament dome the trillions and trillions of lives in... seven... other universes (eight are entering, four are exempt, and one universe most likely will win unless ties are a thing? So maybe that numbers' right, I don't know). He's just acting like it's doesn't matter or that it's out of his control to stop so whatever. Which I guess is fair, but this is the same guy who summoned a universal spirit bomb to defeat kid Buu. So like he's a hero who can learn these techniques from the god/kais but also is so natural that he also jeopardizes lives. And also Gohan is seriously dropping the ball here in pestering his father. He's the good hearted son and is still cheering his father on in victory without even and comments to himself acknowledge his father has caused something tragic to happen soon because of his desire to fight.
Ultimately Goku's far from perfect, his training a key aspect in self improvement. And the Omni-King(s) decision(s) to eliminate losing universes was out of Goku's control. I know if Vegeta was at this exhibition map he would have ripped Goku a new one for putting several universes including his own at risk (especially Bra...), not caring that it was an accident or something Goku didn't know would happen. So I'm not really angry with Super's decision to through Goku into the villain limelight for a change acknowledging his character is ripe for this to happen, but Β some commentary on the magnitude of how serious this is from some people in universe 7 (besides Berus and the Kias) would be appreciated soon. Β I'm sure it's coming though.

With the Kid Buu situation, Goku and Vegeta opted out of fusing again (which would have made things much easier) because Goku said Buu wasn't fused anymore so it wouldn't be fair (which is another aspect that Goku has a kid, didn't like cheaters) and Vegeta reason is he's Vegeta lol. The universe was at stake then but Goku put it at risk to fight fair (in his mind).
And the Omni King was going to get rid of some of the universes anyway, the tournament just gives people a fighting chance. It's easy to blame Goku but Zeno may have remembered or may not have, but at some point in the future whether it was years down the line or even a few days he would have just made the decision and no one would have had a say in it. Goku loves it because he only has one option to win, there is no I will get him next time.
