Description
Taken from Fern Hill in Queenstown which is in the south island of New Zealand.I took this last night after the storm had cleared... there was around 15cm of snow accumulated in around an hour. The clouds hung around for a while so I couldnt get any shots... until I noticed the clear skies before bed. I hopped in my car and drove up the road to one of my little spots to take this.
I thought it was a perfect opportunity to take my submission to the =PanoramaClub s competition Long Exposure Panoramas (my idea!)
Im happy to say that it won! No prizes just a feature with =PanoramaClub - Im just stoked on winning my first comp!
I also entered it into =MountainShots competition which I tied for first!
It is 8 photos over 2 levels, merged together using PTGui Pro.

The first impression this shot gives is a feeling of solitude.
It's like we could be alone, like a child seeing the stars, during a cold winter night.
It's paradoxal. We see the houses next to the lake, we see the warm lights.
But, actually, there is this feeling, like being the first humains, discovering a crater or something... like an extra-terrestrial thing.
Of course, it's strengthened by the clouds, top of the lake and behind the mountains.
Here, there is an epic thing, in a place that could be just for us.
Perhaps it's the first lake, the lake where we born.

Iv experimented a fair bit with borders and have deduced that they are more trouble then they're worth!

This captivated me from the moment I looked at it. As if I'm in the scene itself and gazing at the stars with my own eyes. The lights of the houses gives a feeling of warmth in the winter and clouds rolling behind the mountains adds a bit of surrealism in it. Truly, an amazing capture.

Very nice one too a great mood. I like the enlightened city. The mountains and the clouds are nice but overall feel a little pale and I'm not too happy about the blues in the sky there. The tones shift a lot between the magenta and the green side of the spectrum there. It feels as if you really pushed the processing there to get some good results, but the shot didn't allow for more. The boat on the lake is a nice add-on, but aesthetically too distracting. The shot feels a little bit tilted CW as well. Mainly because of the alignment of the mountain peaks and the clouds.

Having been there, knowing where it was taken from and living in the region I can assure you the photo is very accurate and realistic. Mark has done a fantastic job at executing this panorama
