hey, been a while since i posted anything, but been really busy.just thought that it would be nice to post some of the line art that i did for the new joe/tf book.
i only did 4 pages in issue 4 and then some in issue 5, but i can't show you #5 yet, but since #4 is already out in stores, then i can show you this.
this is the splash page i did with optimus prime charging at serpentor. i keep prime looking almost the way that Joe Ng drew him, so that there was some consistency in the book. i would have liked to draw him a bit different, but in the end i liked the way it came out.
this was my first transformers book where i got to draw g1 characters. i enjoyed that. hopefully i can do it again sometime. well hope you all likes it. i'll post more up later, but i have lots of stuff to get done first.

Two years later... I just wanted to let you know that I finally got my paws on the G.I. Joe/Transformers omnibus and that I KNEW I'd seen some of that artwork before. It was yours. It was THIS picture, in all its inked and colored glory. I wanted to say Thank You to you for being part of the team to make this goofy and highly entertaining crossover epic possible. When I finally get up the nerve to start drawing giant robots, you may be sure that yours will be among the artwork that will be my most valuable reference material. Thanks again for your mad skills. Oh, hay.. are those Cybertronian symbols etched along the edges of the windows and trim there? Do you know what each symbol represents, or do you just come up with a series of designs that just looks good as you go?

sometimes i'll look up the symbols, but other times i just make up stuff. but on some of the other pages i did, i added the modified autobot and decepticon symbols. its cool to play around with that stuff

HOLY PRIMUS OF THE MATRIX!
yeah...friggin awesome work man. Your dynamics specifically really draw me to this, especially considering the detail put into Optimus, it really retains that human quality in him. The only thing is, and I know it was probably unavoidable but because of the lack of certain facial features Prime does end up looking more forlorn then enraged, but i wouldn't really know how that could even be changed, so i'll shut up about it now.

why isnt prime looking at serpentor?
whats a 'g1 character'?

read the comments that were left already, and that will tell you why primes head doesn't look like he be looking at serpentor, but he is. just i don't draw eyeballs on bots, cause i think that be gay. a g1 character means generation one, so the oriniginal transformers, not g2, armada, energon, etc

this is INCREDIBLE, but why is Prime looking up and ahead?

his head is up since when he lunged at serpentor he was further away, so him looking up would help him see where he is going. now as he start to arch back to make his punch, his head will move back. since he has no eye balls its a bit hard to see the direction he be looking, but i did do a rough with his head down and it looked pretty fucked up, so this worked out better. just because the head is up doesn't mean that he isn't looking at seerpentor. i just don't draw eye balls on robots. that would just be fucked. i would animate the whole shot for you, but that would take awhile to draw, and i'm lazy.

not on tf's. their eyes should just be glowing. the only time it works is when your really up close to their eyes and can see the tech behind the glass. well thats just my opinion and personal preference.
