It's amazing how guys like you have the patience to work in every little detail like that. This is one of the best renditions of ol' Megs I've seen in a while.

Excellent! As I have said before, what I like so much about your art is that you include backgrounds. It just adds so much story to the pic rather than a bot posed cool against a white background. Fine, fine work, my friend.

no one ever draws Megatron, sat at his desk just polishing his giant FlailHead, making sure all the spikes are nice and shiney the way BWMegs used to play with Rubberducky

Ooooh goodness gracious. Saw this and explosions. Beautiful work! Can't wait to see the colors! I would so want a print of this on my wall, lol.
As for the weapon, it works well for him - old school Meg's can work with his pop-outta-his-wrist mace. Handle-mace/flail/etc is fine and awesome, as long as it glows purple it's allll good. XD

Holy Sweet Primus, yes. I did notice the reference to your earlier Prime pic. And I agree that having him hold the mace is just better. I'm really diggin' those lines on his face. And the volcano placement. And yeah. Love this pic, and love it muchly. Kudos. Nice to see you posting so much awesomesauce.
Dang, I wanna color this so bad.
Who are you planning on having color it? *anticipates*

You're one of the few artists that make me like Megatron visual-wise, you always give him something else that just delivers elegance while still keeping him a ruthless and fearsome warrior on his own right. And damn, you're right, the flail looks much better when he holds it.

kingwrench [2010-10-04 01:34:20 +0000 UTC]
I think you made him look kind of younger around the face if that makes sense and the perspective is kind of weird, but still, I like it.

markerguru In reply to kingwrench [2010-10-04 02:46:32 +0000 UTC]
if you say so. i was going off of the idw megatron that EJ did.
as for perspective. he's up high on a cliff side. you see down to the ship next to a mini volcano and a sea of lava.
he's also hunched over. what do you find weird about the perspective?

kingwrench In reply to markerguru [2010-10-05 01:24:21 +0000 UTC]
I got kind of confused by it I guess because the sea of lava just felt out of place to me. And I've always had a hard time telling what I'm looking at with black and white stuff. Not your fault with the art, my eyes are just fail.

thats only if you assume that the top is leave, which it isn't, and that the lava is actually flowing over the top, which it isn't. basically the side has warn away a bit. there are little slits in the outer rock wall that the lava is flowing out of. i didn't draw the top surface of the lava i just have it flowing so it's all one part. but no big deal. i like it fine enough the way it is.

Ah hah!! I see it now. It's tricky to see this in black-and-white.

markerguru In reply to SheepSlave [2010-10-05 12:50:15 +0000 UTC]
yeah. there are time i set up things thinking about the finished coloured product, so the B&W sometimes are harder to look at. i think if i added a tonal layer to it, it would be more clear as to what i wanted. i think also with the flowing lava, since i wanted it to look smooth and fluid like, i did didn't draw in a manner to which it's easy to see a definitive top edge. again, thought of the colours first.

Love that you're using the EJ Su design for Megatron. Definitely one of my favorites.

You're my favorite artist for drawing Megatron, really! Also for drawing robot hands. I've noticed you always make the hands look awesome; lots of details and it looks like they can actually move in a way that makes sense.
Personally, I love his mace, just as I love Optimus' axe. I think they're cool as far as melee weapons go, way more interesting than swords (sorry, Drift).
Are you or one of your buddies going to color this? (Or allow people who want to give it a shot to try? If it's a print you're selling I expect a 'no,' but I didn't think it'd hurt to ask.)

markerguru In reply to Humblebot [2010-10-04 02:52:43 +0000 UTC]
right now i'm looking into getting coloured for a print. i'd like to see what he comes up with before i think about letting people colour it. so there is always a chance that i'll allow others to colour it. but right now it would be no.
