In the biography of Ensign Jesse Brown, Devotion, by Adam Makos, these were stationed on the East Coast after the war ended (before jets became widely available) and acted as interceptors against potential Soviet bombing attacks. Pretty uncertain times those must have been.

"If only the war had lasted longer, the Japanese and Germans would have had..."Β THIS TO DEAL WITH.
A forgotten masterpiece of avionics and ferocity, a high performance marvel that the Navy eschewed in favor of trucks like the Corsair after the war. Thank you for making the Acme of the 'Grumman Ironworks' series of lethal prop-driven marvels live again.

Imagine if we had those in the War of 1812!!!?
We'd have sunk the British Royal Navy in a single strafing attack!!!!

The last of the Grumman breed before they moved to jet aircraft.Β The Bearcat was used by the French in IndoChina, and other countries used them, too, before switching to jets.Β Still love those old prop planes.Β

And I have read the Japanese were testing their A7M successor to the A6M Zero when the war ended. Any possibility of doing it?

Not really interested in the A7M but I do plan to get to the A6M, KI-84 and N1K someday.

The French used them pretty heavily in the French Indochina War.

Yes but at that point theΒ Vietnamese lacked any air force. This was a fighter and since the Japs gave up before it was introdused that meant that they lost the change to do what they were designed to do. At least they were used at least.Β Β
