Description

Built by the St Louis Car Company in 1941 for the Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad, the streamlined Electroliner was one of the most luxurious trains in interurban service. They operated on electrified rails and traversed the elevated rail lines in downtown Chicago. Electroliners were capable of speeds in access of 110 MPH however, at that speed they reached road crossings before the gates were lowered so they were limited to 90 MPH in operation. The North Shore Line ceased operation in 1962. The train sets were sold to the Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company where they operated until 1976 as "Liberty Liners". One Electroliner is preserved and operated at the Illinois Railway Museum.Β Prints are available through my website, www.markkarvon.net.

The trains look like they came straight out of Fallout.

Don't know why I keep coming back to this one. Maybe it is richer (more details, the plane), or it's simply the aesthetics of the liner with its exquisite lines and this dreamlike quality you gove it through the colors... Anyway: it is very good and inspiring.
Thank you as always for sharing and the very best for you and yours in the coming year.

Thank you very much. I really had fun with all the yummy color in this one although those stripes and the tracks were labor intensive.

What a fine train!Β  I've seen one in person at the IL Rail Museum, but never been inside, nor seen it run...though it is functional.

I've seen it too at IRM. Great place that has really grown a lot over the years.

Hard to believe this was built for an Interurban Railroad. Even by today's standards it looks refined enough to be mainline material.
