Description Red Guardian
Ink , Marker & Conte crayon on Kraft paper , 8.5”x11”
I believe Red Guardian first appeared in the Avengers back in the 60’s. Kind of a Russian answer to Captain America during the Cold War era , he eventually was replaced by a female character wearing the same costume. I first saw her in the pages of the Defenders. Then artist Sal Buscema , contrary to his usual style , drew her with an enormous chest. If I ever meet him , and if he remembers at all , I’ll ask him about that. I have chosen to draw her with an enormous EVERYTHING , and I like her this way quite a bit.

Thanks , Jeb. I think there's some sort of stereotype that Russian supercharacters are usually depicted as huge & bearlike( From Colossus to Drago from Rocky 2 , etc.). Hm. I might give the Black Widow "the treatment" one day...

Oooo! I remember Red Guardian! Well, the more modern appearances, anyways. Not sure what happened to the female version, but I do recollect a one issue guest villain performance in the Ultimate Avengers line for a showdown with Captain America.

Enormous everything. I find myself intrigued by your thoughts on this and wish to subscribe to your newsletter! Nifty how you gave the shoulders such a square look, yet made sure the hips still had a substantial curve.

Thaks for looking! But I don't think I have a newsletter. Unless it's some kind of feature on DA that I have but don't use...
