Just friends,We were that night in August.
You put your arm around me and squeezed my shoulders but,
We were just friends.
The tears were flowing freely, and you were trying to make me feel better,
Cursing their name under your breath, telling me I deserved better.
Someone who treats me like a queen, and loves me for who I am, someone to talk to.
And I was thinking that night that, that person should be you.
But we were just friends.
You made me laugh when you called him an ass.
And I actually believed you when you said I’d find someone lovelier then that.
You drove me home, because you thought I shouldn’t drive in that state.
And I couldn’t help thinking that I wanted you to drive me home all the time.
That you could be the one I run to when I’m hurt
You told me you would always be there for me, if I need a friend, after all,
We were just friends.
You dropped me off, and I got out of the car, and you said,
“never doubt how beautiful you are.”
You told me you’d see me soon, and to feel better.
And I couldn’t help thinking that I wish we were more then,
Just friends.
