Description this is my version of Cleopatra and Anthony..

Well i've just been told Cleopatra isn't really black. (whatta shame on me).Ok. Let's just say she went sunbathing in the middle of a desert in egypt and eventually, she turned into like a black woman.. he he.. I apologize if i kinda mislead anyone..it isn't my intention.. i was just inspired by Beyonce playing as Cleopatra in dreamgirls. he he. And i was reminded that my loving mother gave me my name in memory of Julius Caesar's Roman General.

Anyways, i based this on some photos of Beyonce, Naomi Campbell and Jude Law (OMG I love him, i believe he's perfect to play Anthony's role in the future). Antony's body was based of a photo by Hapismile [link]

Cleopatra was black, u were correct. Egypt is in Africa! What do ppl think she'd look like? Blonde hair and blue eyes??

Anyway, she may have been lighter skinned simply because Egypt is in northern Africa and they have a lot of ties with the middle east and you know Turkish caucasians. But this is a piece of art, not a history lesson.

Love the piece btw

Cleopatra VII was genetically Greek but culturally Egyptian. She definitely wasn't black (although skin colour is a stupid thing for people to get worked up over) given that her dynasty was Macedonian Greek and she was the product of it's generations of brother-sister and uncle-niece, and aunt-nephew incest.

Actually Cleopatra was not black as she was an ethnic Greek. She was a part of the Ptolemaic dynasty which was founded Ptolemy I, who had been one the generals of Alexander the Great. However she did go to great lengths to display herself as Egyptian rather than Greek. As you said though, this is art... so who really cares what color this artist's version of Cleopatra is.

haha its an honest mistake. i thought she was black too until i found out she was greek, and as for anthony, well his name was actually Antony, Marc Antony. He was about in his 20's when he met cleopatra's little 13 year old self ^_^

Don't listen to the naysayers, I'm a history major and I also saw the program on the science channel that proved her sister was indeed dark skinned, so since they had the same parents.....lovely photo. And please remember...the cave paintings of Cleopatra were "dark"

I consider Cleopatra, or the Ptolemies, multiracial, originally the Ptolemies were a family mixed of Greek Macedonians, one member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, had a harem filled with 600 women consisting of Native Egyptian Women, Nubian Women and Greek Women, her father, Auletes, is an illigitimite child, he married a cousin, Tryphoena and gave birth to Tryphanea and Berenice and later had Cleopatra, Arsinoe, Theos and Ptolemy with another lady. You know they found Arsinoe in Ephesus and prooved she was African mixed with Greek and Macedonian.

You do know there is more than one Cleopatra, that helped rule Egypt right? So, while you consider Cleopatra one thing, it doesn't mean the others were the same....

Yeah, I have em all memorized

1. Syra - A princess of the Selecid Empire of Syria, Husband of Ptolemy the 5th, took on the name Cleopatra Syra
2. Cleopatra the 2nd - Daughter of Syra, became sole ruler of Egypt for a brief time
3. Cleopatra the 3rd - Daughter of Cleopatra the 2nd
4. Cleopatra the 4th - Daughter of Cleopatra the 3rd who later became Queen of Syria via her husband Antiochus Cyzicenus
5. Cleopatra Tryphaena - An illegitimate daughter of Ptolemy 9th, mother of Ptolemy 12th's first two daughters
6. Tryphaena - Daughter of Cleopatra Tryphaena, according to historians, she is considered to be the 6th Cleopatra
7. Cleopatra the 7th - Daughter of Ptolemy the 12th, lover of Julius Caesar and Marc Antony.

Well... To be fair I thought Egyptians were black too.. I always daydreamed Julius Caesar dipping his hands in a delight in the form of a lovely nubian queen. Heheheh... Roman boy got a taste of chocolate. I use to go around saying that Cleopatra and Julius Caesar were the first interacial couple in ancient hystory. Then the truth hit and I was in the same boat as you. Still very very lovely picture Cleopatra reminded of a my lovely Paula.. Too.. bad she married someone else.. sad thing is I did not even had the chance to have a last charge for her heart... Anyway awesome art piece instant favorite.

Great Illustration! Cleopatra's family was the Ptolemys, who were descended from Macedonian Greeks who were commanding officers in the army of Alexander the Great.

Well she was apparently from Greece and not a native of Egypt...but WHO CARES!? Jeez...White people never let Black people have any damn thing, lmao! I kid (partially). But its a testament to how racist our world is when someone draws a beautiful picture and all people care about is pushing her Blackness down. I mean, accounts say she may have been short and slightly overweight too but I don't see anyone portraying her like that. Hell if we go by the Roman and Greek coins made of her, she was pretty damn ugly with a big hook nose. So clearly this isn't a matter of accuracy. Why does her race matter at all? I've seen a lot of Greek people that I would mistake for being a race other than "White". White people can be darker skinned too! White people don't only have pure porcelain colored skin. I'd think that a Greek person living in African would get pretty tanned pretty fast, lol. But really, whether she was Black, Arab, Greek, mixed, whatever has no real bearing on our lives or on the obvious skill of this artwork!

ANYWAY! I really like this picture. My only critique is that her hand looks a bit weird. But I see that this is an older work of yours and your work has improved a lot (not like I have much room to critique since my work sucks compared to this, lmao). I really love Anthony's pose; it makes Cleopatra look so dominant and powerful. Almost like he's in a fetal position! I really like

Sorry but you have been misinformed; according to a documentary I just saw today on the Discovery channel, Cleo
did indeed have some "black" African blood; she was almost certainly dark skinned, and a raging beauty who
apparently was quite good at sex, seeing as how she had both Julius Cesar (sp?) and Mark Anthony wrapped
around her little finger.

I know that you have to be careful of everything (almost) on the internet nowadays, but I don't think that the History channel would lie now...

Cleopatra was deff black. the Egyptians who live in Egypt now are'nt even descendants from the original Egyptians. Ofcourse she was black. Black People are from Africa. Egyptians would never let someone who wasn't of their own kind rule over them. Why do you think the empire fell after she died. because the non-Egyptians were trying to rule over them. Your art Is beautiful Anyway and I really love it. You have blessed hands.

Cleopatra wasn't Egyptian actually, so she wasn't black! i know this because I;m egyptian, Alexandrian and i live in Alexandria, cleo's city, and i can definitely tell you that she wasn't black. Alexandria's residents have always had all sorts of mixed blood, and they were never black
