Following the destruction of her predecessor, the Enterprise G was taken from an existing star ship called the USS Nightwolf (NCC-917582-A) and refitted with newer technology. Upon its launching in 2572, the ship was renamed to Enterprise and was placed under the command of Vice Admiral Va'kel Shon. He, a year later, handed over command to a new captain named Tannarik. Tannarik, who was originally born on Romulus before the planets destruction, decided against his fathers wishes to take on a role in Star Fleet. The first ship to ever have a Romulan captain, the Enterprise-G carried the banner of the Federation with honor and doing so by fulfilling its mission. Three years after Tannarik took command, the Enterprise became known as the focal point that started the Federation Civil War, one that is almost unheard of, after the Enterprise was attacked by a Tagert class starship called the Armageddon. The crew discovered after 8 years of fighting that the Terran Empire, with the aid of Dominion rebels as well as Undine disguised as humans, started the whole thing and blaming the Enterprise. Details on the war are still classified but the Enterprise was instrumental in putting an end to the bloodshed.

My only beef is that this was another ship and then they renamed her ENTERPRISE which is, as any True Sailor and Navy Man already knows, is naval taboo of the highest order. YOU NEVER RENAME A SHIP. The name she is given first is what she should be until she dies (or sinks). The saying goes, LET HER STAY AS SHE WAS BORN (First commissioned). They renamed the Yorktown into the ENTERPRISE A (not a good move) and in DS9 the defiant was destroyed and they replaced her with the U.S.S. San Paulo, renaming her to the Defiant A. This is all bad mojo in real life when dealing with ships and boats.

so essentially the Mk II refit to the Nightwolf Class was an entirely new ship in itself.

The thing is the Nightwolf was going to be retired due to its length of service. Instead of decommissioning it, star fleet decided to refit the ship under a new name. The Nightwolf was logged as inactive while the Enterprise listed as under construction
