I would like a commision, a color drawing of Avis Gertrude Dolphin,  a survivor of the sinking of the RMS Lusitania. It is for a book on a subject, sincce no good photos of her are left i wanted a sketch. Here is the best photo that exists of her

This is wonderful work!!! Love the shading here that shows the play of light and shadow on this portrait of a woman.

Breathtaking work. I recently switched from Mars Lumos to Faber 9000's, wondering how you feel about your change?

Wow yes they are totally different aren't they. I like both but i do have a soft spot for the fabers, they have a nice warmth and subtlety of tone but the lumo's  have a stronger more direct tone. The Fabers take more effort to get nice deep darks which come so easily with the Lumo's. I'm experimenting with carbon pencils and charcoals now and my instincts tell me that the Lumo's would compliment them better than the Fabers if used together ... the Lumo's feel very similar to carbon pencils, the darker the Lumo's go they feel more waxy on the paper and i have never got used to the feel of that yet. Both damn fine pencils though

100% agree. I find the Lumos achieve the darker values better but I was never a fan of the softer leads having that waxy quality. I'll always like the Lumos but I think I favor the Fabers a little more as well.

Yes I found that the lumo's can squeak too which is very annoying

No you're right, i see it every time i look at it. It's such a subtle difference too. My excuse is i took my eye of the ball by concentrating too much on the application with the new pencils and how they were behaving and not enough time looking at the drawing as a whole and getting  the capture or expression right. I think that might have been why i could not come to give it a proper title.

How about from the Old Poem  "Daddy's Gone to War".

markstewart In reply to PleaseImJustaGirl [2015-04-22 17:52:24 +0000 UTC]

For me a title is something that goes hand in hand with a drawing during it's creation so to change it now wouldn't fit how i do things. I think i found the poem in question though by "Caroline Oberle" ... very nice thanks
