Description
This is a tufa impression from Mono Lake CA. Tufas were created when underwater springs spewed mineral deposits and built up these other-world formations over time.They were virtually unknown until Los Angeles County began draining off much of the water supply to the lake and region.

Robin and I saw them up close a few years ago for the first time. The whole story of LA "stealing" the Owens Valley water is compelling. When driving through the valley, there are signs of a once thriving cattle industry. Old, decaying, loading/staging areas next to the highway are common. The valley was also a popular filming location...Roy Rogers et al.,
