Description I've been meaning to draw this for weeks but now's a better time than ever now that it's pride month!

When I found out that Dororo is trans it made me super happy! It's especially cool to me considering that the original is from like fifty years ago so it's super awesome to see a trans character in such an old anime/manga, and especially one created by Osamu Tezuka!

There's also Kei from Black Jack.

AAAA omg this is so lovely!

I was so happy to find out he was trans too, even though most don't really respect it. So it makes me happy to see fanart like this <3

Thank you so much!! <3
Yeah, and it also sucks how the remake kinda erased it towards the end, although it's still left reasonably open, like they didn't specifically call him a girl but you can tell that's what they were going for. :/ From what I've seen the manga handled it wayyy better, not sure about the original anime though.

No worries!

And yeah, i feel they totally erased the fact that Dororo preferred being referred to as male.

It was another one of those anime trope moments like "Wait you're actually a ___??" which I have always hated. If someone has been comfortable being seen as one gender through the whole series, doing a flip flop and saying they are suddenly something else after discovering what they have under their clothes is creepy and transphobic to me hahah

And as a new anime only viewer, I just wish they were more blatant with representation instead of the fake things we are always given. I might have to check out the manga if it's a bit better though!

Thanks again for the awesome art, it's always encouraging to see like-minded creators.

Pretty much, yeah. It was weird, they made it obvious enough that that was the case but then it was still sort of kept kinda vague I guess? Like he wasn't nearly as vocal about it as he was in the manga, but it still showed that he was uncomfortable with being seen as a girl and people finding out that he's afab. It was disappointing as well because I thought that later on in the series he would be more vocal about it / someone else would refer to him as a boy, but it never happened. It's a shame because I feel like it could have been some really good representation if they'd gone about things just a bit differently.

Yeah, I hate that trope too! Like if they had one of those "reveals" where at least the character/s finding out about it were respectful about it and it showed them using the correct pronouns and stuff, then it might not be so bad?? (as long as it's not one of those ones where another character sees under their clothes bc those are bad anyway, I mean they find out some other way) But still the fact that there needs to be that big reveal or whatever is just shitty on its own.

I've only seen the new anime too, but I've seen little bits of the manga in posts on tumblr and the representation was a lot better. Apparently it's still not really the best, but it's better. I also read that Tezuka has made several other trans characters throughout his works, but again they apparently could've been written better so the representation isn't brilliant, but I feel like for the time it was it's not really surprising. It's cool at least that there was representation at all back then, I mean as long as it wasn't really bad representation, but it seems like it was at least pretty decent. Idk, that's a whole other bag of worms and I'm probably not educated enough on the subject to go into it, plus I'm rambling now lol. :'D

Aw, no problem! And yeah it's always great to find people with similar views/opinions/etc!

Thanks :')

Yeah! We're starting to get more rep of various kinds, even if it's still pretty slow. We're getting there, bit by bit.
Thanks again!

How cool Dororo looks in wearing modern clothing, great work on capturing the tribute to his classic (in honor of the remake & its anniversay). I love how you drew & color this piece.

My pleasure.
Always though Dororo was a boy when I first read the manga, btw.

He is a boy! Not sure if you meant that's what you thought originally and you were mistaken or if you were just saying that you knew since the beginning or something, but just in case I thought I'd clarify.

Dororo is the goodest boy. <3
