Description

The first arrow had missed; Leah had been lucky. Surely, the second arrow would find its mark, especially if she simply stood there and made an easy target of herself. The only cover in sight was an ash tree on Leah’s right, a few yards ahead. Leah had to put that tree between her and the centauress. Then she would decide what to do next. Gritting her teeth against the pain, she sprinted toward the tree. Another arrow whizzed past her head. The feathers actually brushed against her left ear. She unconsciously flinched and adjusted her path to the right, for all the good it would do. An evasive, zig-zag course would have been preferable, but rocks and fallen branches formed a gauntlet ahead of her, threatening to trip her up and leave her at the mercy of the huntress.

A third arrow slammed into the ground on Leah’s right, and she instinctively adjusted her course a little to the left. She cursed under her breath, chiding herself; dodging the arrows after the fact was rather pointless, after all. It was an unconscious reaction, really, and therefore difficult to control. There was no way to dodge an arrow aimed at your back, because you can’t even see it coming. Actually, she was rather surprised that the centauress hadn’t hit her yet. The accuracy of centaur archers was legendary. If she didn’t know any better, she might think the huntress was missing her on purpose. A twig snapped under the sole of her right boot, and she glanced down. Too late, she saw the rope nestled in the grass, partially hidden in the shadow of a small shrub.

So, the centauress's archer skills are so fine that she could herd her prey to the noose.. The feeling of her apprehensive walk is totally rendered by your art.

One can see you've been giving a lot of thinking, concentration and authorship to this wonderful tale, with great results. It was so smart to let us in an side of her personality. We're much more abled now to identify with her, just like when you had mentioned her dad teaching her archery, and how she felt protected and supported.

Running around in the woods, dodging arrows, all while in spike heels - true fantasy! LOL

Haha! The ironic thing is that male scouts in the army of the Brythonic Empire are issued the same shoes!
