Clear and well positioned

I'm amazed with the clarity of this shot. I've got a shot of a swallowtail as well, but the focus is nothing near this.
I love how it appears to be starring right into the camera.

MartinAmm In reply to FLuKee [2008-07-29 12:52:46 +0000 UTC]

yes of course, because the insects are sleeping and you can get so close as you want. and after cold nights dew covers them.

Wow, this is really beautiful.
Such shallow DOF for f9... Is it because of the 150mm? I have no experience with such lenses so I'm asking stupid question

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MartinAmm In reply to Poppaea [2008-07-28 14:30:58 +0000 UTC]

you are right. as much more focal length you get less dof at the same aperture

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Poppaea In reply to MartinAmm [2008-07-28 23:12:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah but I thought that you can never get this result at f9 without blurring
Anyway, I love these photos. I've tried to shoot butterflies and I know how frustrating it can get, chasing after them whole day and cursing the wind Only to find out that f9 produced 3mm dof so 90% of the butterfly is blurry and the background not blurry enough to make it nice as your photo
I guess it's all about trying.
