Sweet... Currently highly admiring your apparent understanding of solidity (i think that made sense!)

so glad to hear you found something that rekindled the passioin. if i may pry, why'd it go out in the first place?
there's something wonderfully abstract. this dosn't really feel like anything in perticular (though that could just be my crappy observation skills) other that some strange, elaborate (there's a great sense of detail despite the fuzzy, grainy brush work) structure. that said, you could also take it as a mechanical bust.
i love the strong sense of texture here. people normaly try to capture the smooth nature of metal when rendering it on papaer but you've gone for a totally different approch and the image occationally breaks down into these wonderfully crude strokes/ spray effect (really niffty way to handel the lighting).

thanks!
Well how can i describe it. I guess ... when people want to learn the guitar, they want to learn it so they can do all the fun stuff - jump around on stage, play their favourite tunes, you know. Then as they get better, and they've had their initial fun, they look to the real masters and realise they know nothing. So then they study those masters, their technical skill, and forget the why - the reason they started in the first place.
In my struggle to make myself "pro", I think I forgot that. I was aware that I was slipping ... studying and drawing things in a way that wasnt immediately natural, instead trying to draw my work in a technically accomplished way. Whilst this is good for learning, it has a big negative side-effect - I was no longer drawing for the fun of it, i was drawing to get better.
So whilst I will still draw to get better, I will try and get back onto the path of enjoyment. I don't want to be an artist that is completely self-divulgent, just drawing whatever I want - but then to some extent, that's what's needed.
I just don't want to overthink things. American design studios do that all too much and everything comes out looking the same. I dont think a US design studio could have ever come up with Alien - and therefore i do need to embrace the unusual in myself.
Thanks for the kind comments as always !

Really nice man. I love the colours and textures in this. Did you use any unique brushes? I like that green spray.

Really love the textures. I enjoy it when digital media doesn't look digital. Nice.

Looks good, are these the pastels from painter? Anyways, I actually give crits... a rare breed here on DA, but I assure you I still think this is very 'kawaii', w/e the fuck that means. First, I think some of the dispersed 'spraypaintish' texture gets in the way of the pic and hurts it. Especially when it's on the actual metal (sort of wrecks the smoothness of the metal by breaking it up). Also think there could be a little more saturation somewhere in here, the colors are a tad too tame and diffused (the nice warm/cool color choices themselves are good). It might help if you punched up the armor with a touch of more vibrant orange or the teal looking energy with some brighter value for some extra pop.

It must be all the feelings you've had while drawing this that made me go "whoa" when I first saw this in my dev-watch.

Yeah. Lucky I suck enough not to have anyone steal my work, yet. But I understand how hard it feels. I'm sorry the watermarks have to be so dumb too.
Do more of these man. Let your feelings flow more.
