Well I kind of like your older drawing a bit more. But I start like this piece more when I keep seeing it.

well
first of the shapes.. make sure you have clear lines and the shapes are smooth.
second: shadow. don't let the light came direct from the front. Try to let the light came more from the side and one more from behind.

Yeah I struggle a lot with shadow. I would try the gray-scale to colour methode for a next drawing. but it's still clearly something to spend more time on. Spend to much on the fur detailing...
