As Darth Sidious electrocutes Luke in front of Vader, Luke screams for help. The dark lord stands there, motionless. He seems to be deep in thought.

Vader starts to remember who he was: Anakin Skywalker, a slave boy on Tatooine who later became a Jedi, probably the greatest that ever lived.

Unfortunately, Anakin started to lose his trust in the Jedi. The death of his mother, paired with visions of his wife being doomed to share her fate clouded his mind. Palpatine saw an opportunity to turn Anakin against the Jedi and made false promises that he could teach Anakin how to save Padme from dying.

Anakin's fall to the dark side was complete. He was now known as Darth Vader. The death of Padme further enraged him.

Anakin had been born a slave. It seemed as though he was doomed to become one yet again.

When it was revealed to him that Luke was his son, Vader began to slip away from the dark side. Palpatine came to realize how his new apprentice failed him, and decided to punish him.

Vader was given the chance to redeem himself. He would either kill Luke and remain at Palpatine's side, or be defeated by his son, who would become Palpatine's new apprentice.

Unfortunately, Palpatine failed to notice the flaw in his plan: Luke realized there was a way to defeat Sidious without killing his father in the process. Vader struggled with his past, questioning whether or not he was really his master's puppet. Palpatine had used him to do his sinister work for almost 20 years, and Vader obeyed him without question.

As Luke lay there, screaming in pain, Vader saw a vision of himself as Anakin Skywalker, the war hero of the Clone Wars. As Vader snapped out of his trance, he approached Palpatine and threw him down the shaft of the Death Star, proving that he was the chosen one.

Vader's sacrifice brought an end to the Empire and the Sith once and for all. Although his legacy was shrouded in controversy, Darth Vader was no more. From this moment forward, he would be remembered as Anakin Skywalker, the formerly disgraced Jedi Knight of the Republic who fulfilled the prophecy by defeating Emperor Palpatine.

Luke realized Leia could never forgive her father for what he had done to her homeworld. Darth Vader became a controversial figure in galactic history. Some saw him as a hero while others saw him as a murderer. Even though he had redeemed himself, there would still be those who could never forgive him for his crimes.

Regardless of what the future had in store, Vader was ready to come to terms with himself. Whether history remembered him as the chosen one, or the dark lord of the Sith, he had become one with the force.
