Description The life of combat and battle is an old companion for the leonine wanderer known as Darayaus Azad. Raised in the stable of pit fighters and gladiators known as the Fearless Fists, he knew no other life from before, and nothing to his name except his name. As he grew stronger and mightier, he became praised for his brute force, able to weather tremendous punishment and deal it right back at the head of the maul. His enormous body soon became a vast canvas for the many scars and cuts his opponents would inflict on him, soon giving him a name in the gladiatorial circuits - the Tallyman.

But each battle in some unforgiving pit would end with a visit to whatever passed for an infirmary, wherein Darayaus would be met with the sight of crippled and dying gladiators, people he had grown to love as friends, even family. Each death drove him deeper into sorrow for the lives cut short and anger for the unrelenting cruelty of Drusus Nestor, a master that cared only for coin.

Conspiring with his oldest friend, Sekhtra, Darayaus aided in a revolt that tore open the gates of Kowa Arena. The fighting was fierce between the gladiators and the bushi guardsmen of Jasuga. Of the twenty pit fighters that tore out of the cage, only Darayaus and Sekhtra managed to escape the city, stowing aboard a fishing boat moments before it could cast off. As the city shrank further and further in the distance, Sekhtra finally died of her wounds, her last words begging Darayaus to remember her and to stay alive, that the Fearless Fists not pass into obscurity.

Among Darayaus's meagre possessions, he keeps Sekhtra's bone-carved necklace, now a talisman of good fortune worn about his wrist like a lady's favour. He would continue to live, to keep the Fearless Fists' name alive, perhaps help it stand for something more than a ragtag band of pit fighters...

A couple of years ago, I decided to create a leonine Barbarian/Circle of the Moon Druid for another Dungeons and Dragons campaign. Say hello to Darayaus "The Tallyman" Azad, an enormous - 7'3" in height - bruiser with a penchant for finishing his sentence with an upward inflection of "yes?".
