You're really a movie buff! I had to look up that MacGuffin thing and its meaning. After what I've learned, I have to assume that MacGuffin refers to the parcel and not the person seen here. Well, that's fine with me. But WHAT'S THE CONTENT of that parcel?

You owe me an answer here. I MacGuffin want to know.

And last, but as always not least, the colors in this shot are awesome; and cropping just perfect, should any cropping have occurred. And the pose of the elderly gentleman is a beautifully restrained one, modest without being servile.

Oh! The Horror! The Horror!

Now you guess where this line comes from.

Hint: it's literary rather than visual as in movies, albeit the key scene has been used by Francis Ford Coppola in some freewheelin' way in one of his most acclaimed works.

That's an easy one. The line was from Apocalypse Now.

Now let me share another bit of movie trivia regarding Coppola's most celebrated sequel to his equally esteemed work, The Godfather. Β

In the final scene in The Godfather: Part 2, where everybody isΒ still alive and the family is all together, the Corleones have gathered to surprise Vito for his fiftieth birthday.

Now Marlon Brando who had initially agreed to do a cameo for this one scene, suddenly decides not to show up, hence causing panic and confusion on the set.Β

Then Coppola, by some stroke of genius, makes a few rewrites thus allowing the scene to continue without Vito (Brando). And quite amazingly, the scene worked!!

Coppola was able to 'create' Vito's immense presence without Brando.Β

In a way, Coppola 'MacGuffinized' Marlon Brando.

"In a way, Coppola 'MacGuffinized' Marlon Brando" - now that's a true achievement. And the expression 'MacGuffinized' is as from now on an official one, to be found in any future dictionary. And this thanks to you.

The literary background I mentioned refers to Joseph Conrads 'Heart of Darkness'. Coppola transferred this 19th century story into the present, using the US-Vietnamese war to track down a contemporary version of Mr. Kurtz.

Should you happen to have overlooked this novel in the past, I highly recommend reading it. Anyway, most of Joseph Conrads works are worth the time it needs to read them.
