Description This is *Nippalony and my entry for the Collab contest themed 'Protection' on the Artismurder website.

We both wanted to present artwork that is powerful yet depicting reality simultaneously.

This is the story of a young girl’s heartbreaking life with a child of her own.
Her life has caused her to develop a vile revulsion to life and has driven her
to protect her child from the evil of the world which she herself was subjected
to on several occasions due to a lack of protection.

This piece, consequently, discusses both the loss and gain of protection at once.

We bring to you, Ganaat, or Heavens.

"My name is Ganaat.
It means “Heavens” in Arabic.
Let me introduce you to my
version of heaven.

At the ripe age of 14,
I was dreaming of oriental sweets
dripping with sugar,
dripping down my arm.

At the ripe age of 14,
I was married off for money.

I had a baby girl.
I called her “Rahma”.

[Mercy]

He divorced me.

And threw me out onto the streets.

I live selling tissue paper,
Selling bread,
Selling anything
That I can.

I’ve been thrown into police stations.
I sell without a license.
Raped by police men.
By criminals.
By women in the night.

Today I wiped my blood off the floor,
Nobody will know the truth.
I was hurt and threatened to be slashed and torn.
More. Again and again.

But I am already torn.
I am already slashed.

I am.

I am.

I am Mercy.
But I’ll make sure
My daughter, Mercy,
Will never be subjected.
I will protect
And I will overcome.

My name is Ganaat.
Welcome to my heaven."

--

Amy and I worked great as a team, even though we live so very far away. We both took the photos for this piece. I took the one of the two girls while Amy shot the one of herself with blood. We both edited the pictures together and wrote the description. It was a very good team effort and we are pleased with our result.

Yes it's very sad. Unfortunately, there's a lot of that sort of stuff.

Thanks for commenting and favoriting this.

Sometimes the best work is that which cannot be commented on, that which you cant quite place your finger on that which you like and that you wish to be changed and improved. Such is the casse with this particular piece, I really like it, that is of no doubt, but I also feel that something needs to be remedied, yet after 10 minutes of staring at it I am still unable to say what that is; which of course is also a testament to the work that I actually care enough about it to spend so much time...

I also always feel that there is something that needs to be fixed but I can't put my finger on it. Thanks so much for the lovely comment, Kris.

this is by far the best piece i've seen in ur gallery. kick ass. you get an A for this. it'd look good even without the inset image, but all in all, as i said about 24 words ago (go ahead, count), kick ass.

They're not 24. You should learn to estimate better than that. They even look more than 24. But hey, thank you for your awesome commenting skills.

Good luck in the contest! Ours (last I saw) turned out pretty funny. There's a cool painted look to it, but my sister ended up looking like she's sitting in a bubble.

Oh, I love the setting. It's actually one of my aunts' houses here in Jakarta. She just moved in after two years of building. It's a really cool house.

Where did you meet this child?

It's a shame that this child lost her childhood upon the ignorance of others,

Excellent poem.

However, the heart (or whatever it is) in the hand of the other model doesn't seem fit. It is understandable that you want to emphasize the theme in which she has "wiped [her] blood off the floor," But I believe a picture of her within this devaition (the cropped pictured) seems sufficient to explain the theme.

My suggestion is that it's better if it's simple.

Regards,

Great piece

There are so many children like this.
I met her somewhere in the vicinity of where I live.

Thank you so much for your critique. What is in her hand isn't a heart but a piece of white cloth. Thank you for taking the time to look at this in detail, Adib.
