I know the feeling, a wizard's heart is a fragile thing.

I`m always astounded by how much character, life and background story showing through your figurines have... apart from being so beautiful and full of wonderful details. And this masterfully crafted, enchanted by strong love poor Merlin is definetely no exception.

Lovely work on this one! I tend to be rather disappointed with most peoples interpretations of Merlin as I consider myself an amateur Arthurian scholar having read so much about the legends and everything, but this is a wonderful version of the great Myrddin Emrys!

Thanks, unfortunately I'm not as well educated (and I don't like the "Merlin" movie series at all), but this picture of an old guy under a tree kinda got stuck in my head over a year ago)))

Boggleboy In reply to MarylinFill [2011-02-23 02:37:07 +0000 UTC]

The various re-inventions of the Arthurian myths tend to be...well, some I like, so I do not, but most I just tend to treat as having been inspired by the old tales that came out of the original myths and legends.

This image though...classic and a personal favorite of mine. I was given the nickname of Merlin, did you know that?

Wow, cool))) well, you look like a wizard, plus you are an artist I think every dollmaker or special effects designer is a magician in some way - we create illusions, so why not?

Boggleboy In reply to MarylinFill [2011-02-25 04:20:29 +0000 UTC]

HA! I suppose I do! And I agree: what we do is magic, we are wizards!

Thanks, but who this lady really was ? Was it Morgan la Fay or Lady of the Lake))) I do not know... Google says it's a mystery, and I agree. Anyway it's the Tree Looks like Annie Lennox to me)))

Chaosfive-55 In reply to MarylinFill [2011-02-20 18:18:49 +0000 UTC]

Neither one, actually--her name was Nimue, and Merlin fell in love with her; she sweet-talked him into teaching her his magic arts, and then used them to seal him forever in a cave! That seems treacherous, but what lovely young enchantress wants an old wizard chasing her around like a lovesick puppy?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MarylinFill In reply to Chaosfive-55 [2011-02-20 18:35:04 +0000 UTC]

There is also a theory that Nimue and Lady of the Lake are the same person, in other case it was a devil (sure ) so who knows)))
Also I believe the story has to do something with another legend of Odin who was hanging on the tree for several days to regain wisdom))) I see a pattern here - Odin, Merlin, Gandalf

MarylinFill In reply to dutchway [2011-02-20 16:20:16 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, mostly I prefer ProSculpt baking clay

dutchway In reply to MarylinFill [2011-02-20 21:23:12 +0000 UTC]

I never used that yet.
I think i must try it one day.
At the moment i work with premier clay.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MarylinFill In reply to dutchway [2011-02-21 08:02:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, premiere is an air-drying clay, it cannot create as many details as baking clay can, so I think you should try it too)))
