Description EOS 60D | EF-S 10-22 @10 | 2s | f/8 | ISO 100

As I recently posted in my journal on here, I have been doing a lot of re-edits of older shots of mine. Some which were very well received by friends and family, and online. But knowing what I know now, I just know that I can get more out of some of these older shots and present them in a way that is more in keeping with the style I am trying to develop as well as make them more pleasing to look at.

So, this is a shot that I first posted last August, and have since gone back and re-edited to retain more detail as well as give the image more pop, and really make it stand out as a shot that truly belongs in my portfolio.

This is the old image for reference. I would love to hear your thoughts, both about the image in general and also about the new edit vs the old edit.

For those interested about the location, this is just upstream from Purakaunui Falls in the Catlins, South Island, New Zealand. Taken during my trip there in May 2012. This jungle setting was a short 5 minute walk from rolling pastures and seemed completely out of place considering where we just were a few minutes earlier.

I love this one a little better Hon! I looked at both and it is crisp and has a touch more color and vibrancy to it~
It is a great shot regardless..! Have a good night!!

Definitely lots more vibrancy in this edit.

Yes indeed. I like this one better for the detail in the water, but once I posted it, I started to question if the vibrancy/saturation was just slightly over done?

I think it looks fine...doesn't look overdone to me.

I find it a bit overcooked.  I can't recall ever seeing fern this shade of blue-green.  The original shot was definitely undercooked, this one could use a bit of subtlety in the green channel.  Otherwise the composition is very nice.

Hey I know this comment is super old, but thanks. I was still experimenting with different editing techniques and did this re-edit at a point in time where I had a tendency to push vibracy without scaling back saturation, often ending up with a lot of interesting colors, but with saturation way too high. At some point in the near future, I will go back and scale the saturation back a bit and it should help keep the color separation without it looking overcooked.

Hopefully my newer work and edits have been able to get the pop I want without going past that point of cartoony and just a bit over saturated.
