Description

BASED ON THE CHARACTER "RODAN" OWNED AND CREATED BY TOHO CO., LTD. BASED ON THE MONSTERVERSE SERIES OWNED AND CREATED BY LEGENDARY PICTURES AND WARNER BROS. PICTURES.

This superspecies was awakened and escaped from Outpost 56 on Isla de Mara, Mexico in 2019. After the defeat of Monster Zero, he and some of the other Titans became submissive to Godzilla, the alpha Titan, and nested in a volcano near Fiji. However recently, Rodan started to challenge the Titans actively in the adjacent archipelagos, spreading volcanic ashes and dealing great damage to the populated corners of the South Pacific. The initial report on Rodan’s action was believed to be the same reason as the major Titan uproar and the rampage that Godzilla is responsible for.

This superspecies is classified as a winged Titan that possesses the physical features from both the modern raptors and pterosaurs. Despite the presence of a curved beak and hooked claws on his feet, the Titan does not have feathers for flight support or thermoregulation. Instead, cooled molten magma decorated his large wings and his back, while his cranium with two curled horns extending backwards are protected by rocky materials.

The Titan can take flight with a pair of wings with remarkable wingspan. By contracting the well-developed chest muscles, Rodan can elevate into the air in lightning speed. Although the spikes on his chest did not serve an aerodynamic purpose, the Titan remains an acrobatic flying creature, shown disassembling a squadron of fighter jets with various airborne moves.

The most troublesome characteristic of Rodan is the trail of lava and ashes left from his flying path. Not only is it imposing danger to the citizens’ health and safety in terms of reduced visibility, air quality and “storm of rocks,” but at some extent it is also restricting the modern civilization from functioning properly. Transport of people and goods is to be suspended due to occasional volcanic eruption, and the situation will be worse for a bio-volcanic Titan that can level cities by simply flying above them.

It is unknown whether the magma inside of Rodan is part of his physiology or something needed to be taken, but it may reflect how this Titan discarded the evolutionary traits of possessing feathers. Theoretically, the magma flow can warm the air around the Titan, so that a lifting current is produced to lift the Titan up to the atmosphere. Even though modern interpretation of the pterosaur said they are probably endotherms like today’s avian, this Titan would rather need to deal with the heat dissipation with such internal magma flow.

This superspecies is excellent in flying. He was shown playing around the air forces with his agility and feral instincts. His beak, claws and talons are tools for dissecting anything he wished to consume. The power from his core muscles allows him to perform high-speed flight and “thunder-clap” attack. Despite he is not fast enough to generate sonic booms, his sheer size can create shockwave when flying low to the horizon.

The Titan is also revealed to be smart and accurate, seen when he utilized his volcanic ashes and clouds as cover, ambushing from the mists and targeting one enemy at a time precisely when the situation allowed. He quickly changed to attack in all direction when surrounded by the fighter jets by doing a barrel row, releasing him from potential danger.

Despite of the fact that Rodan was known as the Rock Monster Eagle and Tsé Nináhálééh from the Navajo creation myth, according to the data of the Titanomachy event in the Monarch Historical and Mythological Archive, he apparently participated in this event and was known as the Sun Titan, ”Hyperion” around 3000 B.C.E.. The Ancient Greek feared his volcanic nature but also paid respect as he was not always threatening humanities’ existence.

This is also true in today’s observation of the Titan. Although being referred to as the “Fire Demon,” he is the most docile ones among the other Destroyer-class Titans. After he nested near Fiji, Rodan’s living pattern was mapped out with no great effort: taking rich volcanic soil for helping digestion after a semiannual hunt, and stayed soundly in his new nest, absorbing radiation from the Earth’s core. On his attitude to the other Titans, he is only shown aggressive to them at first glance and will determine to challenge them or not after receiving a reaction. He eagerly tried to defeat Mothra after he believed that he had an upper hand; and he would not bother Godzilla seeing him incinerating King Ghidorah, who Rodan lost to. Speaking of King Ghidorah, Rodan seemed to attack the three-headed dragon directly without tempting. As a wide belief of Godzilla’s rivalry with King Ghidorah is ancient and unique, Rodan’s action apparently tells a more complicated story between these first Gods when they lived together under a realm.

One week after Godzilla’s reappearance, Rodan rose from his volcanic nest and growled to the near islands more often. In two days, roars of the other Titans in the region responded to Rodan’s cries, and thus Rodan departed his nest. Rodan confronted Titans like Bunyip, Kumonga and Kamacuras. He did not manage to terminate these Titans but the way he is drawing attention seemed to be a distress signal.

Four days later, Rodan arrived to the dense forest below Mountain Fuji, where Biollante fell, and started messing with Yamata No Orochi. The Holothuroidea Titan could not stand the heat released from Rodan and urged to the nearby seafront after extending its eight “heads” as a decoy display. The fiery Titan did not chase it since two new comers appeared right before him. King Caesar rose and raised a vigilant stance upright. Anguirus emerged from the other side of the forest and his eyes met with the other two. Rodan extended his wings high up and let the volcanic ashes suspend in the air. As the ashes spread it created an illusion of the winged Titan becoming larger with the inflating shadow it casted, tempting King Caesar to rush towards Rodan first. Anguirus was closing in too, but he stopped and released a sonic blast at King Caesar. The blow hit just before the simian Titan was struck by an ultramarine beam from nowhere, knocking him at a side. The earth where King Caesar came across now filled with the exploding Hollow Earth energy, and a fearsome roar was sent from behind the blue flames.

Godzilla had arrived. As he was ready to give another heat ray shot, Anguirus restricted the raging reptilian with more blasts of soundwaves from his shivering dorsal spikes, keeping him immobile and sneaking carefully. Rodan and King Caesar quickly noticed their source of uneasiness, all turning against Godzilla. King Caesar utilized the smaller hills as platforms to bounce, gaining momentum and landing a powerful dropkick on Godzilla. As Godzilla was stunned and fell onto the ground, Rodan swiftly landed on Godzilla and grabbed him by the dorsal plates, ascending to the air. Then, the winged Titan crashed Godzilla harsh on the ground, pressing him steadily. Anguirus also beat Godzilla with his tail multiple times.

As Godzilla recovered, the glowing dorsal spines started to scorch Anguirus’s tail and energy jolting vigorously from it. A thin beam of intense blue energy went straight to the sky from Godzilla’s mouth, cutting through the entire troposphere. Scared, Rodan retrieved from the grabbing position and merely dodged the heat ray. Before Godzilla stood on his feet and was feeling to fire another shot, the three Titans joined together to repel the mad King. While Anguirus continuously launching thundering sonic blasts at Godzilla, locking his position, King Caesar pushed him by all four limbs and Rodan dove heavily down on Godzilla.

The mad reptilian was pushed to the nearby waters, firing, but missed, one more beam of ultramarine fury. Since then, he disappeared in the waters. Rodan landed, watching the fading blue energy in the sea alongside with King Caesar and Anguirus. The three Titans looked tired for fighting each other in the near future, but it left a problem. The problem on whether Godzilla had forgiven them.
