Anne Rice is pretty great, and she came before all this fangirl hype about twilight. You should try her. Nora Roberts actually has a series with vampires, which is also good. Dracula I haven't read yet, but hey , he's the original.

To me Stephanie Meyer has ruined that which was totally awesome about vampires. House of Night however, pwned in the beginning until Zoe became a little too whoreish for my taste. XD I can't get into Vampire Diaries at ALL because my friend is constantly reading them and it gets annoying fast. lol You should try reading Dracula though, I hear its pretty good.
