With every second, it was getting harder to move, and she knew if she did nothing her fate would be sealed. But, even in the darkest of times, she was not one to lose her cool. There was one, admittedly small, avenue left opened to her. With darkening vision, she could see the scorpion was still right in front of her. Too far to swing at, but…

“I hope this works… otherwise…”

There was no other option. Holding her short sword as if were a javelin, she tossed it with the last of her strength, aiming to skewer the damn creature underneath the blade. She heard the sound of metal striking stone, and then, a distinctive ‘pop’.

“Got … ya…”

*criiiiiiiick*

The monster faded from existence, freeing the sword that was lodged in its carapace. It was an impressive shot, to be sure, but sadly, there was no one left to witness it. For Melfy was already solid stone, her eyes as blank as those of her friends. Her awkward pose would have toppled her over, but the thick strands of spider silk still restraining her kept her balanced, albeit precariously.

This is a birthday gift for . As his name translated to stone spider, I had commissioned a scene from one of his stories. Melfy the leader of the fallen Rabbit's Foot guild struggles valiantly to save her friends, who have fallen victim to magical scorpions. She is able to strike a fatal blow against the the one that stung Vhaja, but not before it stung her, turning her to stone as well as the magical spiders bind her in their webs.
