Glad that you found inspiration here. The materials that I use are very simple: [link] and Clayboard. Sometimes, like this piece, I do use watercolors to throw some color in ...

With my Puffin series I was trying to do more of a portrait, so that might have had some effect on that.

Thank you for your kind words. It is one of my smaller pieces, 5x7, that's why it only took five month to do. It would have taken less time, but I was working on the other two puffins in the series, as well. I do like watercolor too, and usually do one or two after completing a pointillism as a way to loosen up and have fun.

Thanks, I'm kind of partial to this one as I'm really proud of the way the eyes came out.

It's not that hard. I put the color down first then the dots. Check out the WIP in my gallery to see.

I just uploaded a close up of some yellow tang in my gallery. The smallest dots are .20mm in real-life.

Whoa...what sort of pens do you use to get the dots that small?

I use Sakura pigma micron pens exclusively. There is a link to them on my personal website.

You put the dots on first and then colored this?

I mean you are very patient in doing pointillism, you know, it takes time to finish.

But it is not hard work in one enjoys it! It is very tedious and time consuming if pointillism is not your thing ...

If you are not comfortable with watercolors try something that you are better at ... oils, acrylics, ....
