There are nights when I am not human
My spine is serpentine and my limbs issue forth from it
merely extentions of my lithe core
too long
disproportional
a spiral wrapped in muscle
My skull encases my senses
My ribs wide and angular
move with my breath
rise up and out
fall to force my exhale
My arms hang precariously from their single joint
Rise above my head
Reach for the moon
My shoulder blades slide smoothly over my back
dancing among my postural muscles
And my pelvis locks my spine
in its vertical position
trapping it in an evolutionary prison
My mamalian legs stand firm
strong and heavy
Thickened bone carrying my weight
I no longer move belly upon the earth
but plod like a beast
A beast with a serpent's spine

And my fingers are extensions of my mind
Claws that caress
Digits that destroy
Where my mind wonders my hands soon follow
racing with my thoughts
exploring this maggot white skin
paper thin and useless
