Unlike her ancestors King Iaudas and Emperor Masties who employed compromise tactics in dealing with the Byzantines and the Vandals to reclaim North African lands, The last ruler of Aures, Dihya the priestess, adopted scorched-earth tactics pushed by the indignation she felt at prince Koceila's death.

Dihya successfully repelled the invading Umayyad Caliphate armies, forcing them to retreat all the way to the Egyptian borders but she was eventually defeated in 701 AD, after being betrayed by her adoptive Arab son.
